Reports: Patrice Bergeron has concussion

The Boston Bruins’ worst fears following Tuesday’s hit were seemingly confirmed on Wednesday, as it appears that Patrice Bergeron did suffer a concussion, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.

If that news is true, that would mark at least the fourth noteworthy head injury in his NHL career. He suffered concussions in 2007, 2008, 2011 and after a check by Ottawa Senators player Colin Greening yesterday.

The 27-year-old forward has managed a great career even despite those problems, winning the Selke Trophy last season.

There were some questions about which top-six player might get bounced with Jaromir Jagr added, but now the Bruins choices appear to be (unfortunately) simplified. We’ll see how – or if – he bounces back from this latest setback, though.

As you probably know, the B’s already have seen one high-end center Marc Savard‘s career fall apart because of concussions.

Boston Globe reporter Kevin Paul Dupont confirms that Bergeron has a concussion.

    This is depressing

  2. dvo085 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:14 PM

Get better soon and get back on the ice!

i can hear the boston fans excuses now…

    • theblakfox - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:23 PM

      real classy…

    • nunan - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:30 PM

Not an excuse when it’s true..

    • lordstanley65 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:59 PM

Nice one, you stay classy now.

  5. blackfoot11 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:23 PM

Sucks. The B’s lost their best player. Hope he gets healthy soon.

    • jpelle82 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:31 PM

one of my favorite players, hate to see this. beyond the ramifications for this season…this possibly puts his career in jeopardy depending on the severity.

  6. bruinsfan19 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:27 PM

This is horrible news. Hopefully it’s not severe and he can get back

  7. JoeAvg - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:28 PM

This is never good to hear. After the fourth he should begin to think about his mental health in the later years. I’d miss him but if I were him, I’d be thinking about hanging them up.

  8. clawedjeroo28 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:29 PM

Sucks for them. Don’t care what team you root for. Gotta love Bergeron and the way he plays

    • paulgfournier - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:12 PM

Bergeron is a CLEAN player, who has great ‘on ice’ perception. He knows the game well, and can see plays develop before they do. He is the kind of skater EVERYONE wants, and they get cranky when the can’t have his caliber player on THEIR team!

  9. jaybaileys - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:37 PM

Not good news, hate to see great players hurt. He seems to be a real solid player and its a shame he is hurt. Hopefully he’ll back in the playoffs.

  10. whammy71 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:37 PM

Can’t wait to hear how it is either Ulf Samuelsson’s or Matt Cooke’s fault! WHAMMY!

    • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:53 PM

Do you find pleasure in anything besides trolling?

      • whammy71 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:20 PM

Hey PhillyPhalicSymbol – Beantown Bozos still cry about Neely and Savard – you know it’s true – so my comment was spot on and relevant.

While I am pretty sure your team will be golfing April 29th (I’ll give them a day to clean out their lockers) – I would love them to get the 8th seed and get dispatched in a quick 4 or 5 game series.

oh, I forgot…..whammy! (lower case – don’t wanna hurt your ears)

      • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:30 PM

I’m fully aware of the history, but when you end two great players careers I’d say there’s room for complaints. I still haven’t gotten over the loss of Pronger, and probably never will, so I can empathize with Bruins fans.

    • jcmeyer10 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:55 PM

Dude, drop the WHAMMY bit. I know you are trying to build a catchphrase through an internet comments section but we don’t care.

      • lordstanley65 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Heh…just like that fat idiot on the fake storage locker show.

      • supercoop8 - Apr 3, 2013 at 6:20 PM

Hopefully he wasn’t born in 1971 and now trolling message boards with a stolen catch phrase, it would be too depressing.

    • drewzducks - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:06 PM

      Whammysmom69s…never mind.

    • paulgfournier - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:14 PM

YUP! I’ll bet you are a PK Subban fan too!! Ulf and Cooke are two of the dirtiest players who ever stepped on the ice! I played the game for years, and LOVED a good aggressive, physical game… They are just dirty, cheap shot artists…

  11. yoc19 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:43 PM

one of the best 2 way forwards in the game…one the classiest players on and off the ice…

    • whammy71 - Apr 3, 2013 at 7:11 PM

that is cool that you speak so highly of Matt Cooke! whammy!

  12. phillyphanatic77 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:52 PM

Another head injury to another great player… what a shame. Bergeron is one of my favorite non-Flyers in the NHL. Excellent two-way performer and leader. Hopefully he can make a speedy recovery, because Boston is the team I’m hoping can knock off the Pens.

    • whammy71 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:10 PM

Pens ain’t losing four 2-1 games outta seven….we’ve been through this before. Try again PhillyPhalicSymbol. WHAMMY!!!!!

    • nicknyhc - Apr 3, 2013 at 6:44 PM

I’m actually hoping the Islanders take the 8th seed and knock the Pens out first round. Tell me that wouldn’t be hilarious.

      • chanceoffleury1 - Apr 3, 2013 at 7:35 PM

That wouldn’t be hilarious. There, I said it.

  13. hocsocmom715 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:07 PM

You want Boston to knock off the Pens because your team in is the toilet and wont make the playoffs. LMAO!!! Lets go Pens!

    • whammy71 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:08 PM

      right on brother!

    • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:32 PM

I thought that was obvious with my comment? Leave it to a Pens fans to think they’re insulting me when they’re really just piggy backing on my point. Keep celebrating your Cup victory in April, it worked out really well for you last season.

  14. sjm1717 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:10 PM

Karma for milbury being a fat idiot

    • hockeyflow33 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:48 PM

  15. malkinrulez - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:55 PM

Hate to see Bergeron out , great player. I hope he comes back but 4 concussions has to be worrisome for leading a pain free life after hockey

  16. malkinrulez - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:58 PM

phillyphanatic77 trust me most Pens aren’t celebrating a cup right now. We have Martin,Crosby and Letang out for god knows how long. Pens are an injury to geno to the whole thing unraveling.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 3, 2013 at 6:17 PM

Well you may be smart enough to not be, but you should let some of your fellow Pittsburgh supporters know that a great regular season record and a talented roster guarantees nothing. The Pens are the easy favorites, even with their injuries, but it would be foolish to start parade preparations. I’m glad you are level-headed about it, but from what I’ve seen on PHT, it doesn’t seem to be the consensus.

  17. LampyB - Apr 3, 2013 at 6:16 PM

Cant believe how many retards show up to post here. Bergeron is a standup player in the NHL, well respected. What matters is whether he will be able to continue playing in the future. Doesnt matter which team, he’s a great guy to have and any club would be lucky to have him.

  18. arbruins - Apr 3, 2013 at 8:27 PM

Whammy? How freakin stupid is that?

I hope Bergeron gets better soon and is still able to finish his career. He is a great role model and leader.

  19. gallyhatch - Apr 3, 2013 at 8:52 PM

Please don’t feed the troll(s) people; attention is what he wants, ignore him & he’ll go away.

It hurts as a Bruins fan to see our most important player get injured like this. It hurts as a hockey fan to see anyone get hurt like this.

Get well Bergie, do what’s best for your long term health.
