Video: Islanders’ Martin knocks out Devils’ Kostopoulos

Apr 2, 2013, 1:03 AM EDT

New York Islanders forward Matt Martin and New Jersey Devils forward Tom Kostopoulos came together in a short, one-sided fight Monday evening.

Martin dropped Kostopoulos to the ice with a hard right punch, then motioned to the benches for the training staff as he realized the immediate condition Kostopoulos was in.

Class act from Martin. Two willing fighters but his concern for the other guy’s health was awesome. Two wins.

Good guts from Kostopoulos too, sticking up for Gionta against a stronger opponent.

Kostopoulos’ team was struggling. He wanted to provide a spark. This happens hundreds of times a year. Only thing unusual was the knockout punch & MattyMarts’ response. MattyMarts is an Ontario lad so expect Grapes to gush.

Ahhh, wouldn’t it be wonderful if all sports included 2 guys beating each other up then showing concern after. How wonderful.

This guy Martin plays with heart and is a class act all around.

Good to see some class at the end of a good fight

Well, that was the exact opposite of Zac Rinaldo and BJ Crombeen.

Yeah, Rinaldo kept beating him into the ice after the KO, and then Crombeen was viewed as a worthless chump afterward in this forum.

That whole night was a disaster. But players concerned for injuring guys they bit is nothing new. I remember Lawrence Taylor jumping up and down waiving for the Red Skins team trainers when he snapped Joe Theismann’s leg and the bone popped clean through his pants

    Hit NOT bit

This seems like a defense for fighting in the NHL more than a negative.
It shows that two guys can have a disagreement and still show good sportsmanship.
One guy sticking up for a teammate and the other helping a guy immediately after knocking him out.

There is no fighting allowed in the nfl and those scumbags do nothing but run their mouths and show off.
