Discuss: Sabres snap Penguins’ 15-game winning streak

It’s over at 15.

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ 15-game winning streak, which saw them victorious in every game they played in the month of March, came to an end Tuesday evening in a 4-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Not even Jarome Iginla‘s first goal as a member of the Penguins was enough.

  • Nothing to lose? The Sabres dealt defenseman Robyn Regehr yesterday and came into today’s game against Pittsburgh sitting 13th in the Eastern Conference, seven points out of a playoff spot.
  • How much will the Penguins miss Sidney Crosby? The super star was released from hospital and there is, right now, no exact timetable for his return.
  • Which streak was more impressive – the Penguins’ 15-game winning streak, or Chicago’s 24-game streak without a regulation loss to begin the season?

Sloppy game. Small bump in the road to the Cup. Go Pens.

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:13 PM

First a broken jaw now a broken streak whats next ?

      • jmp527 - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:20 PM

a winning streak that has as many wins as your team’s season total. The only thing you have for the rest of the season is trolling pens articles on PHT which is starting to stand for Penguins Hockey Talk.

      • cheesesteak75 - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:28 PM

        #1seed in playoffs.

      • pitpenguinsrulez - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:32 PM

Hey eigglesnosuperbowls next youll have a broken heart when the Flyers miss the playoffs and your Giants miss the playoffs again this fall

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:34 PM

        That was weak !

  2. JoeAvg - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:08 PM

Flat effort. At least it’s one less distraction.

  3. steelpenbucs87 - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:08 PM

Tough game – the Pens just didn’t have it tonight. I gotta believe these streaks become more and more about mental as time goes on. As was the case with the Hawks losing to the Avs earlier this year, a streaking team gets knocked off by a lesser (although not on that night) team.

Good for the Swords – showing a lot of heart in a lost season. Pens not quite as much.

    Silver linings:
    – Still 15-1 in the last 16.
    – Flower came and played well again – good to see he’s healthy. Vokoun hopefully doesn’t let those goals get to him – a couple of good shots, a couple of weird plays, and one REALLY bad bounce. Hopefully he’s all good.
    – Iggy on the scoresheet glad to see that too.

Hat tip to the Sabres, but it’s just one game. Time to get your head right, leave this game in the past and get ready for the Blueshirts in19 hours.

    Keep it up Sabres

  5. ironman721 - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:09 PM

Can’t win them all. Good run. Let’s go Pens🐧❗

  6. pitpenguinsrulez - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:12 PM

Lets watch all of these Armchair Quarterback haters start ripping on the Pens meanwhile they’ve never once put on a pair of skate and ACTUALLY played hockey in person and not a videogame like NHL 13. Your bound to lose games after being on such a streak. I have no problem with the Pens losing tonight. Id rather see us lose now then towards the end of the season. What needs fixed is the slow sluggish starts that have plagued this team in the past four games. You cannot keep that up with the playoffs around the corner. Also for any Pens fan who says “Oh lets trade Malkin Neal or Fleury” let me remind you that your an ass who doesn’t know much. It may not be said on here but I expect to see that on other websites. This team will regroup after tonight and come out tomorrow night much better hopefully. GO PENS

Sabres deserved to win outplayed the Pens

    • trbowman - Apr 2, 2013 at 11:06 PM

I’d never thought I’d hear those words this season.

Highlight to an otherwise dismal year.

  8. sjsharks66 - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:14 PM

    Hey! I like NHL 13…..

As soon as Niskanin turned that puck over i called it that the streak would be snapped. Really impressive to watch a streak like that. The eastern playoffs are going to be awesome!

  9. aklolzer - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:14 PM

    Bunch of losers

  10. valoisvipers - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:18 PM

Too bad for them but there are eleven games left to go on another.
Hawks went flat after their streak something for the Pens to watch out for.

  11. billysabre - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:20 PM

Great way for Pommer and Miller to go out! Great game Sabres!!!

  12. killerpgh - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:26 PM

Playing without Letang and Martin (who average the most ice time per game) and Crosby (who factors in on over 46% of the Penguins goals this year) it’s going to be tough. Still just a game and the Penguins only need 4 wins in the last 11 game to lock up the division and a top 3 seed. Now they don’t want to go limping into the playoff, but they have plenty of time to correct some of the issues.

Man Game Lost as of 3/1 Philadelphia Flyers 142 Pittsburgh Penguins 34

      • hockeywithdrawal - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:37 PM

Thats partially because one of your ‘lost’ players is retired.

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:39 PM

        Ok well minus his games

      • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:54 PM

Without Pronger as part of the equation the Flyers still have over 100 man games lost. You can’t minimize the losses of Letang, Crosby, Martin, and Malkin (before), but eigglesnosuperbowls is correct in this instance. Injuries aren’t the reason the Flyers are where they are but they sure as hell didn’t help. And the Pens have been relatively lucky (injury wise) up to this point.

      • fbothharbaughs - Apr 3, 2013 at 9:49 AM

be interested in seeing how many of those man-games lost of your Flyers are anything more than 3rd- or 4th-liners

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:35 PM

        Stupid Remark

      • fbothharbaughs - Apr 4, 2013 at 12:00 PM

… says the Flyers’ apologist complaining about injuries

    • blackfoot11 - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:38 PM

Injuries are a game changer for a team. Especially, Crosby’s, as he is the heart and soul of the Pens and makes them go. Winning 15 straight is one he!l of an accomplishment though.

  13. hockeywithdrawal - Apr 2, 2013 at 10:34 PM

Nothing to discuss here, great streak, now the hype can stop. Great game by Buffalo, they were fast and everywhere. Tough night for Vokoun, Fleury looked great though.

    • blackfoot11 - Apr 3, 2013 at 12:43 AM

The streak is over, but the “Hype” will remain, as it is perpetuated by the their performance this season, in addition to the high profile trades that made them the favorites to win the Cup, based on Vegas and pundits. The Pens remain in the pressure cooker.

Anybody heard from gamechanger87? I think he made a bold prediction earlier today.

  15. drone501 - Apr 2, 2013 at 11:02 PM

    where is whammy?

    • whammy71 - Apr 3, 2013 at 4:41 PM

Here I am!!!! I’m glad you were worried.

I was busy installing some new home theater equipment in the game room – it is gonna sound so sweet when the Pens win the Cup this year!!!!

The first poster pretty much summed it up. Bump in the road. I cruised through here last night before going to bed and didn’t see any dickhead comments from the Filthy Faithful or Beantown Bozos…so I took the night off.

  16. chanceoffleury1 - Apr 2, 2013 at 11:40 PM

Rather them get a little cold right now and go into the playoffs just as they’re getting hot again anyway. But the lack of Sid’s presence was definitely felt today. Pens seemed a little lost out there at times without the captain. Could definitely tell they’re still settling into finding their new roles. Great to see that Iggy chemistry starting to click, though!

  17. mickwalker2013 - Apr 3, 2013 at 12:11 AM

Everyone is going o have a “bad” night and lose a game they should have won. And a new “star” won’t make any difference. No winning streak lasts forever.

Congrats Pens (and fans) on a great run. Not a Pit fan but it was an impressive streak they put together and you see/hear the jealousy coming out in these comments

  19. 5hole26 - Apr 3, 2013 at 5:58 AM

looks like well just have to go undefeated the rest of the season. Easy job for the franchise

  20. buffalomafia - Apr 3, 2013 at 10:34 AM

I wonder if the Penguins are thinking maybe we should go aftet Ryan Miller?

  21. gamechanger87 - Apr 3, 2013 at 11:54 AM

The Franchise decided to stop embarrassing the rest of the NHL and give a game away. Tonight Malkin will go on a lamp-lighting tear and Fleury will post a shutout, guaranteed.
