Canucks ‘all-in’ to win Cup, still hope to add before deadline

Earlier today, the Vancouver Canucks acquired center Derek Roy.

The move was not insignificant so far as trades are concerned.

Still, hours later, assistant general manager Laurence Gilman was telling TEAM 1040 radio that “we’re not done trying to improve this hockey team.”

Gilman said the Canucks may add one or two more pieces before tomorrow’s deadline, as the franchise goes “all-in” for the playoffs.

“We know this is our team and it’s our time and it’s fertile, and we’re trying to win the Stanley Cup,” said Gilman. “We’re working at every angle here to see if we can add another piece.”

San Jose winger Ryane Clowe is one option for the Canucks.

Gilman also suggested Vancouver could add another center — perhaps a more traditional (read: strong and defensive-minded) third-line center than Roy — with Ryan Kesler seeing what he can do on the wing.

And of course, a team can never have enough defensemen in the playoffs.
