Sabres open to ‘just about anything and everything’ at trade deadline

It might cause some serious grumbling in the Buffalo Sabres locker room, but GM Darcy Regier told John Vogl of the Buffalo News that the team will listen to all kinds of offers at the trade deadline.

“Where our hockey club is right now we have to be open to listening to just about anything and everything, and I am listening,” Regier said.

Rumors have floated around about a bunch of Sabres players as the team experiences another disappointing season, star goalie Ryan Miller included. Defenseman Jordan Leopold might just be the first to go.

With such a broad proclamation, other teams and the Sabres’ fans might wonder what Regier is aiming for in a trade. He spoke vaguely about the future.

“You’re looking to get a group of top players that are going to play together, not on a one-year basis but going forward on a multi-year basis,” Regier said. “That’s our focus, and it could involve any players, and I think the players are aware of that … We have to be open to anything.”

Considering how much NHL general managers have complained about the lack of “sellers” in a league full of parity, it’s intriguing to hear that at least one team is putting up anyone for sale … at the right price, of course.

Listening and dealing are two different things. Have to wait and see if he does anything more by Wednesday.

Anyone who wants Miller can have him. Check the stats 1 year ever in top 10 save pct or GAA. He has been marketed great and benefited from the Olympics. Watch him every night he is run of the mill.

We don’t want Miller, or that idiot Myers!

    • phillyphanatic77 - Mar 30, 2013 at 9:29 PM

If the Flyers could somehow get Myers without having to give up an arm and a leg then DO IT. He may have struggled the past year and a half, but that tends to happen when your teammates aren’t performing either. You can’t teach size and Myers has shown flashes of elite ability. If you have a chance to bring in a 23-year old, 6’8″ defender with upside then you don’t hesitate. Especially with the Flyers desperate for help on the blueline.

Myers aint goin nowhere. Hodson and myers are the only untouchables.

How many times is this post going to go up with a slightly different headline?

  8. manchestermiracle - Mar 30, 2013 at 9:17 PM

Hasn’t Leopold already been traded to the Blues?

  9. flyerguy73 - Mar 30, 2013 at 9:39 PM

Hey phanatic, have you seen him play? He is lost out there if someone pressures him. We had a guy like that named Matt carle. We don’t need another one. Ha has no speed, and zero puck handling skills.

    • elemeno89 - Mar 30, 2013 at 10:33 PM

Matt carle is having a pretty solid season in Tampa last I checked. The last things any Philly fan should complain about are defensemen and goaltending, because they are barren at both…

Cue up the “Buffalo Sabres Fire Sale” video postings.

      Nah braj, I’m done.

  11. muttbolts - Mar 30, 2013 at 10:13 PM

Miller being run of the mill is a huge step forward for the lightning goaltending.

The one trade I want to see is Regier for any new GM!!!

  13. kgun80 - Mar 30, 2013 at 10:27 PM

Flyerguy…. Apparently you’ve never seen him play his 2 best assets are speed and puck handling skills. He has been badly coached but has tons of potential and skill.

  14. bruceleroy1 - Mar 30, 2013 at 10:45 PM

Thanks kgun, I was gonna say the same thing. Myers is a skater he can fly, Im not so sure about anything else but he can definitely skate.

  15. buffalomafia - Mar 31, 2013 at 6:43 PM

    Regeire is gotta go first!

With all do respect to Ryan Miller I can see him in a Flyers or Blackhawks jersey?!

Send Myers to the Lovejoy or South Buffalo neighborhoods to learn how to fight! Lol!

Then get lots of draft choices!
