Thomas Vanek gets hurt once again

The beginning of Thomas Vanek‘s 2013 season was brilliant. It’s looking like the middle will just be labeled black-and-blue.

A week after getting hurt in a contest versus the Montreal Canadiens, the 29-year-old winger was forced out of Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning with an upper-body injury, according to Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News.

This marks the third time he’s been banged up in the month of March.

Even with all of those bumps and bruises, Vanek’s still had a fantastic season, collecting 33 points in 29 games. If his injury isn’t too significant, he should have outstanding trade value (if the Buffalo Sabres are willing to listen to offers).

Hate to admit it, but just trade him, Pommers and/or Miller. Plain and simple, we have not won anything with them and we can lose without them.

At least some new faces might fire up the old bandwagon again. Something, anything new has to be more exciting and inspiring than these guys.

Trade Miller but keep Vanek and Pominville. It’s just bad luck Vanek has been injured so much. You don’t trade a big points guy unless you are getting known quality in return. I don’t trust the Buffalo front office to bring in comparable value.

Bad luck? This happens every season, I love the guy, but he takes a beating playing around the goal mouth so much and misses time and/or slows down every year.
