Report: Rangers to bring 2010 draft pick over from Sweden

The Rangers may be dipping into their pool of international prospects to help themselves get into the playoffs.

Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports the team is looking to bring 2010 sixth-round pick Jesper Fast over from Sweden now that his Swedish Elite League team’s season is over.

Fasth, amusingly so, lives up to his last name as a speedy winger. This season he had had 18 goals and 17 assists for HM71 and at 21 years-old he’d add another infusion of youth to the Rangers lineup.

The hangup in having Fast come over, according to Brooks, is he’s likely to be a member of Sweden’s World Championship squad and they may choose to keep him there to participate in that. If he joins the Rangers and they do make the postseason, that will cut into the start of the tournament which begins on May 3 in Sweden and Finland.

At this point of the season, the Rangers can use any kind of offensive boost they can get as they’re tied with San Jose for fewest goals scored on the season.
