I agree with you fully!! I also have M.S. and just because we put on a “show” so other can’t see how we are feeling, most take it as a sign that we are feeling good all the time, which most of the time is not the case. I have been in a wheelchair for the past 5 years and after so long when hearing that I look fine I tell them “thanks, the chair just had a tune up and is in good shape for its age!!” This disease really is a MonSter and those that don’t have it has no idea what we go through on a daily basis! I commend any athlete that can perform at such a high level and look at them as the real role models compared to the “flashy” athletes that gets more praise than the ones that have to work harder to get where they are due to all they have to overcome.

Tx – you put in writing how people can be insensitive towards the disabled and not even know they are doing it.
You obviously didn’t catch the sense of humor/irony I use, notice the second paragraph starts ‘seriously’. Of course you are a hockey dad from Texas, you gotta be a different breed!
I NEVER SAID ANYONE WAS INSULTING HIM, I am saying that people don’t realize that what they say hurts other people. Many MS sufferers treat the phrase ‘you look good’ as an inside joke.
And I am pulling for him too, but as someone with a lot of MS experience I don’t see how he will ever be an effective, reliable goalie again. There isn’t a cure for MS and it doesn’t just ‘go away’. When MS eats the myelin on your nerves it doesn’t regrow, that nerve is shot. Many people with MS have a ‘relapsing’ form, where their symptoms will appear and then disappear, sometimes leaving no damage, sometimes a little and sometimes a lot.
I hope he can still make it as a goalie, but if not I hope he’s thought about a coaching career so he can stay involved.

Everyone is pulling for Hards, especially the coaches you are insinuating are insulting him. I doubt Josh would share your irrational predisposition to hand signal delivery. Settle down, already.

I also have MS. One of the things most of us MS’rs hate the most is when we people tell us “you look so good”! My usual reply is a hand signal to let the person know they are number one!
Seriously though we do hate hearing that. Having MS doesn’t change your appearance at all, of course we look good. I’d trade looking good for no fatigue, coordination, perfect eyesight and no tingling anyday.
Please don’t tell people with MS they look good, it really hurts when all you want to do is be able to swing a golf club.
