I have to ask how Elder gets two games for this hit when he had no previous strikes against him and Brayden Schenn had his skates up hit from the other day ignored after a suspension eariler this season. So random. Spin the wheel…..

Actually I DO play the game. Nice try, though. I also know in that situation, you would come to a stop by the goalie as your trying to get the puck (or poke it past smith to a teammate)…there was nowhere for edler to go and yet he goes in full speed.

As an ardent and values-driven fan of the reigning Stanley Cup champions who simultaneously keeps a close eye on all things Canuckle, I can tell you friends that Edler’s behavior in this incident is completely “inconsistent” with the psyche of the typical Swedish male. I know these people extremely well, having lived and worked in that country, retaining Swedish citizenship and calling Swedish my second language. Swedes are one of the nicest and most “well grounded” groups of people that you could ever find anywhere. Erratic or unwarranted outbursts of violence is simply “not” a part of their DNA … and nor do they ever harbor malicious or hurtful thoughts, as is sadly the case with “certain” other cultures. On the contrary, the Swedes are a people you can “count on” who carry on in everyday life the way everyone “ought” to do …

Unless of course if alcohol is involved. Because if it is, then all bets are off! The fact is that as much as I like the Swedes as a people, to this day I maintain that only Russians and First Nations people are worse drinkers than the Swedes! Once a Swede gets a “buzz” going then you can forget it, as you don’t know what’s coming next, be it a kiss or a punch! The bottom line is that Swedes & alcohol equate “viking-styled” carnage and mayhem!

Executive Summary: my forensic conclusion would be that Edler was “likely” intoxicated during this particular game and that the “liar” Smith should be thanking his lucky stars that his head is still attached today!

No one’s really saying Edler shouldn’t have been suspended, he hit a goaltender, no shock there. The (inexcusable) atrocity is the utter randomness of NHL “justice”.

When a Canuck fan voices his displeasure with the ruling, he’s not condoning Edlers act, it’s just another NHL fan upset with the ridiculous unfounded wheel of justice that is somehow deemed acceptable.

One day, it’s about injury. The next day, it’s about intent. Today … well today apparently it’s about area codes.

I have no feelings towards this metric, I’m just letting you take this step to see if you can figure out the fallacy you’ve made in this thread.

No attempt to slow down? Hes coming in full speed…. you can’t just stop in a fraction of a second like that. He does however pull up a bit and doesn’t make as much contact as he could have if he wanted to level Smith.

His stick is in the air because he waved at the puck and missed… and then looks up an sees Smith right in his face. If you’re about to run into a wall, you’re going to put your hands up to protect yourself are you not? Same is true when you’re about to run into another player.

And theres no bias from me. I don’t care for either team or player. This is simply a case of a goalie giving a fast moving player no place to go. That ice should be as much Edlers as it is Smiths in this case…. and its a joke that theres a suspension here.
