Ok, everyone needs to settle down on this. Nash didn't eye him from the other side of the rink, you're judging a two second replay in super slow mo... IMO Nash was cutting across the net, the puck must have gone to the other side, and caused Nash to look in TP's direction. Nash looks like he's trying to brace himself for the upcoming impact by naturally putting his arms up in a defensive postition (ppl attacked with knives usually have cuts all along their forearms from doing the same thing, it's natural instinct). I think it's clearly incidental, but given the slo-mo it looks a lot more malicious than it is. As far as Kgun goes, dude, I'm a Sabres fan too, get over the Kaleta hit already. You're just making the rest of us look bad.

Stakex, I always respected your comments on this site. This time however, I am not sure if you actually watched video. Nash went clearly after Kopi from the distance. I know that game is played at high speed (I've played it myself) but pros as Nash should be able to avoid it from 6-8 feet distance. Kopecky had a chance to score and Nash was clearing the space in front of their goal. SO please do not mention such as BS that he was cutting and accidentally collided with him.

But what is more embarrassing then the decision not to discipline Nash is that not ONE panther went after Nash to stick up for their teammate!!!! Gotta protect your own...!!!! Miss that with the old school hockey. Make them think before they do that again to a teammate.

Cant have a Marquee player sitting for 2 to 4 games with their season on the line. So how does Shannaban explain no discipline for:

1 - Point of contact is the base of his neck / head (where a player can be concussed from)

2 - He left his feet. (a Pirouette that would impress some Ice Dancers with the Air he got)

3 - He has a prior history of discipline for questionable hits.

Did the player return for the rest of the game? Worthless employee of the NHL. Shannaban should be in politics.

It was a grimey hit. Dont see the contact to the head though. Looks more like an elbow right below Kopekys neck. Still he left his feet and squared the guy up with his back turned. I don't like it. Shouldve been atleast fined for leaving his.feet. Surprised he.didnt smack his elbow before he layed the hammer down. How much taller is Nash? Ovi leaves his feet on every hit. Never gets disciplined either...

As a Sabres fan I totally agree the Kaleta hit was a terrible downright moronic play that could have caused a serious injury. It is a different level of a dirty hit from what Nash did.
But this hit most definitely deserved a suspension or some kind of discipline from the NHL. He left his skates and hit a player in a defenseless position. Even if it was incidental.. He's still responsible for not being aware and being negligent of another players well being.

You know stakex, you seem to think that everyone who disagrees with you has never played the game at a competitive level. Or, actually held different hockey duties at various levels of competitiveness and organization. You really have to stop assuming, and be a little more open minded that some here have played the game and simply have a different opinion on certain matters like wearing a visor, fighting, head shots, rules etc.... You catch my drift?

When hockey fans start comparing this collision to the Kaleta/Richards incident it really makes me worry for the future of the sport. Kaleta's hit was regarded as an EXTREMELY dangerous dirty hit that could have broken a guy's neck by pretty much every hockey commentator. Even Ryan Miller criticized Kaleta for that hit, and his own coach still wont play him.

How on Earth is this the same hit? Take the hometown goggles off people, you're just making yourselves look stupid. Look at Nash's right skate in this gif. He realizes at the last second that Kopecky is in a defenseless position and tries to sidestep him to avoid hitting him full force. At 6' 4" 218 lbs Nash could have steam rolled him if he wanted to.

I'm confused, how is the not an illegal hit? Nash leaves his feet to launch himself elbow-first into the back of Kopecky's head. This is the definition of the type of hit that needs to be removed from the game. C'mon Shanny, you're smarter than this.

this has all the signs of a suspension except the suspension itself!!! hit from behind, leaves his feet, elbows him directly in the head. Nash would have to commit murder from rangers fan shanny to suspend him

This is an absolute joke. Shanahan once again proves to be consistently inconsistent when levying suspensions and fines. The NHL refs have been selective in their penalty calling all season, and again they miss a blatantly dirty hit here. Then the league essentially brushes this under the rug. As others have pointed out... it absolutely has to do with not wanting to take away the best player on a huge market team trying to make the playoffs. Once again finances come before the safety of the players, despite the league's rhetoric saying otherwise. And Shanahan is just proving what many have been saying about him since he became the player safety czar: there's zero consistency in his decisions, superstars receive special treatment, and, most importantly, he favors certain teams over others. This hit was deserving of atleast two games. And by not punishing Nash, Shanny is opening the door for other high profile players on important teams to get away with these kinds of hits. Just disgusting.

Elvis' hit it right on the head (dirty, dirty pun).

It didn't look like a rinkwide run, but come on. Yes, he could have done worse. That doesn't mean it isn't bad enough in its own right to warrant a friggin' hearing.

I know I'm going to get massive thumbs down for this, but slowed down in the GIF it looks like Nash's forearm and wrist make hardest contact with the back of his right shoulder. From this angle it doesn't even look like he got hit in the head at all.

I'm not a Ranger apologist at all, I think Shanny has been maddeningly inconsistent with his suspensions/non-suspensions, and I think this is still a reckless hit by Nash worthy of at least a fine and a phone call and should have been penalized for roughing. But I just don't see a suspension hit here. Sorry.

I don't see at all how Nash tries to let up, unless you're trying to explain him jumping towards Kopecky as Nash meaning to jump around him. Even that's a stretch though as then he'd typically try and move hi upper body away from Kopecky as well instead of leaning forward and towards Kopeck with his elbows in front and with at least the left one driving down during contact.

Watch the video close, Ms. Nash. Exactly how is sticking his right elbow out directly at TK's head just before impact trying to avoid damage? To avoid damage he could have grabbed him IF it truly was an accidental hit.
Accident or not (and I did see him concerned after it happened), he deserves a suspension - but the league needs the Rangers in so it didn't happen.
