Not really. Not for a winger. Even with Booth out we still have a fantastic group of wingers. Burrows, Sedin, Raymond, Hansen, Higgins and Kassian. Nothing wrong with those top 3 lines. Whether Gillis is forced to make a move at center is debatable but the Booth situation didn't really change anything.

According to Bob McKenzie the Canucks are on Iginla's list. He's also a former Kamloops Blazer has a home in Kelowna and enjoyed his time hers during the 2010 Olympics.

That being said I don't see Calgary trading him here unless Iginla's the one driving the bus and asking for Vancouver.

Given his track record as a GM you can rest assured that Gillis will do something that won't work out.

canucks30: I highly doubt Iginla will view Vancouver as an option. Actually I don't think he'll view anywhere as an option, I don't think he'll waive his no trade clause (I don't think Kipper will either) and it'll serve this franchise right for giving those out like they meant nothing (although those two did earn them) and not recognizing that they should have started a rebuild 2 or 3 years ago.

The Dallas Stars have 3 players who could really help Vancouver in Morrow, Roy, and Jagr but unless Dallas falls out of the playoff race Mike Gillis is going to have to get creative. Iginla and Ribeiro may also options.

While it technically doesn't open cap space yet (the Canucks are still under the cap so they don't need to put anyone on LTI unless they trade for someone that does put them over) it's a more definative answer to what the salary cap looks like this season. Kesler will be back, but Malhotra and Booth both won't play again this season.

I can see a move for someone pricier on an expiring contract as a rental, or someone a little more affordable (or young and on an ELC or something similar) that the Canucks want long term. There's still a small possibility that recent College UFA signing Kellan Lain could fill the 4th line center job, with Lapierre taking over the 3rd line role, and Kesler returning to the 2nd and then using the wingers that are currently available. Bringing in a center/winger for the top 6 or even top 9 that's an upgrade on who the Canucks already have could be an option though.

This doesn't really change that much. The Canucks had too many bodies when healthy and now they're still really only short a checking center, who is preferably LH and a steady RH D-Man.

A perfect world would probably be Fiddler and Robidas but I have no idea if that's really plausible.

Gillis is almost forced to make a trade now, his roster is too thin to remain firmly in the playoff race. I'd expect a move in the near future.
