Everyone seems to be jumping on this 3-on-3 bandwagon. That has less to do with any NHL game I’ve ever watched than the shootout.

I’ve never seen 3-on-3 play in an NHL game. Ever.

I’ve seen plenty of breakaway attempts where it’s just the shooter vs. the goalie.

If anything, just change the points spread.

Regulation/OT win = 2 points
Shootout win = 1 point
Loss = 0 points (Nothing for losers!)

I like the shoot out.. but I always have said this. After at tie, each team gets 3 chances.. then 2 chances and then 1 last guy so six shooters are the max. If the game is still a tie then both teams get 1 point. It is not a sin to give only 1 point out.

I don’t necessarily hate the shootout (as a Pens fan I won’t bite the hand that feeds me). But, I still hate the way they *reward* the shootout. It shouldn’t be worth the full points. Fun fact: Florida and LA wouldn’t have made the playoffs without the shootout/overtime loss point.

Ten minute overtime. Three points for a regulation win, two for an OT win, and one for a shootout win. A team who loses shouldn’t be given any points. This would also help increase scoring because teams wouldn’t play so passively in the third period of a tie game. Big difference in getting a three point win or nothing at all just playing for a possible shootout loss.

kill the shoot out. go five mins of 4 on 4. then 5 mins of 3 on 3 and if still tied just call it a tie – 1 pt each…the 3 point games are stupid especially in division matchups. sometimes the shootout just isnt fair for anybody. my pens with fleury in the net are pretty much guaranteed the extra point if it goes to shootout. they havent lost a shootout in over a year and they have only lost 8 times out of 30 in the last 5 years.

so for 3 on 3, you’d have to stop the play, start everything over again, break up any flow, and play 3 on 3

10 minutes of 4 on 4, leaves plenty of room for a decision, and if we need, skills competition it is

I like the shootout…maybe thats because the pens always have 3-5 good shooters and a solid, if not great shootout goalie. I believe the pens have also only had 2 SOs this season (and won both), so its not like every team is like vancouver.

I think 3 on 3 would suck. I always thought points should be 2 for a regular or OT win, with 0 going to the loser of OT. SO’s could be 2 points to the winner, 1 to the loser.

OR just simplify it and go 3 points for regular win, 2 for an OT/SO win, 1 for OT/SO loss.
