the salary is the biggest concern ofcourse, but has anybody noticed how garbage dan boyle has been this season? less than half a point a game and minus 8 on the season on a good defensive SJ club. SJ is in the top 10 for least goals scored but cant score themselves, SJ could use Dan Boyle showing up, not sure what the Rangers think they can get out of him, he plays with some pretty good guys on teh SJ first unit PP and has been underwhelming.

The real problem for the Rangers going after Dan Boyle is the cap space. I don't see how they can afford to take on another $6.6 million hit next season. They already have a cap problem next year with $56 million in salary next year, and thats without re-signing Hagelin, Stepan, and McDonagh... all of which are going to get big raises over their entry level deals.

In fact, the Rangers only have $1 million in cap space right now ($5 million if Staal is done for the year). That means they would have to move at least one of their top players. Its possible Gaborik could be on the block given his slump, but I'm not sure if trading a goal scorer like Gaborik (even with the slump) for an over the hill defensemen is a smart move when goal scoring is your big problem. Thats not to say Boyle isn't a top notch player, becuase he is... but hes not suddenly going to make the Rangers an offensive machine no matter what. If Gaborik snaps out of his funk, he actually could help make the Rangers more dangerous.

I expect the Rangers to make some sort of move before the deadline if they can find a willing partner... but I don't see Dan Boyle ending up in a Rangers jersey.
