Lightning put Malone on IR for second time this season

Mar 20, 2013, 3:02 PM EST

Ryan Malone‘s nightmarish campaign continued on Wednesday as the Bolts placed him on injured reserve with a shoulder ailment.

Malone, 33, already missed 13 games this year with a lower-body injury and only just came off IR on Mar. 7.

The latest injury occurred during Monday’s win over Philadelphia, when Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo caught Malone with this hit seven minutes into the third period:

According to Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times, the club is still deciding if Malone can rehab the shoulder, or if surgery is required.

One would think the latter would all but end Malone’s campaign, given Tampa only has 19 games left in the regular season.

Malone has 5G-2A-7PTS in 16 games this season with the Lightning, and could be on the shelf long-term with captain Vincent Lecavalier, who has a broken foot.

That’ll teach him to try and play hockey when scum like Rinaldo is on the ice – if everyone played like Rinaldo, the puck would sit there untouched while 10 skaters just huffed around the ice hitting each other.

Keep saying it over and over to yourself and you might even end up believing it.

no penalty, Malone has the puck at his feet and head down. didn’t charge him, didn’t leave his feet, so how is it dirty?

Kneary, i say it because of his actions throughout the game. he was intentionally trying to hurt anyone he could…as far as im concerned, hes just as bad Bertuzzi

lol Torres hit last year in the playoffs was cleaner than that crap..he was trying to hurt someone in that game, i watched him skate the full length of the ice just to board one guy while ignoring the puck completely..and that was before this and the other dirty hit…oh, and whats with Hartnell starting fights with guys half his size? what a wimp..pick on Lucic like that..oh wait, he knows he would get his butt handed to him..(no, im not a bruins fan.)

Then why don’t you hear Malone or Boucher complaining about it? It was clean even if Rinaldo was trying to kill him. When I used to check people I was trying to commit murder. It’s part of hockey.
