Video: PHT Extra – Ducks pay up for Perry, Getzlaf

Mar 19, 2013, 10:34 PM EDT

With a combined annual cap hit around $17 million and contracts that total $135 million, the Anaheim Ducks signaled that Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf will represent the foundation of their franchise.

Few would deny their talent, but in a salary cap era, is this the right move … especially for a team that’s been pretty cost conscious over the years? Mike Milbury and Keith Jones provided their take in this post, so let’s see what PHT’s own Jason Brough and Mike Halford have to say.

Well maybe if they didn’t match the offer for Weber they might have been able to sign some offensive talent. But that’s all in the rear view mirror now. We will now have to watch the teams lack of financial common sense drain the roster for years to come and ensure a mediocre team that will lose support and remain poor. Maximizing what they could have got from the flyers to not match the offer and accepting that we are a small market team would have helped us stay relevant.

Dang…Perry would have looked good in a Jets jersey. They have enough picks stocked up for this year that they probably could have had him too.
