However, I would also point out that taking a hockey argument to a place where you are now badgering someone else for details about a general comment made does not help your credibility, it portrays you as a creepy serial killer-type psychopath, which would explain why you are good with Rinaldo’s style of hockey. I have read a lot of your “insight” on here, it is always one-sided, half-educated BS which deserves no credibility. Never facts, just insults to other commentors. You’re looking at it purely from a Pens perspective. Look hockey fans love big hits, and there’s no one who delivers them as well as Rinaldo. It’s easy to look at the Flyers and say they’re a losing team because their players are more focused on hurting opponents instead of playing hockey, but that’s far from reality. You’re wrong that Rinaldo is bad for Philly and bad for hockey. He’s not Aaron Asham (a true goon that Pens fans had no problem with), he’s not Shawn Thornton, or any other plodding goon. The dude can skate, he can handle the puck, and, most importantly, he can play hockey. He just happens to bring an element that few can provide. Every team needs an enforcer, as a fan of a team with players who requires protection (Crosby), you should know this. And Rinaldo is an enforcer extraordinarie. But he’s not the same goon, out to hurt people, as he was last year. You’ve seen the evolution of Matt Cooke, from a dirty player to solid contributor, but you refuse to acknowledge the development of Zac Rinaldo. The way he hits and the way he fights provide energy to the team, just like they would for any team. He gets the crowd involved which can be a huge benefit for a home team. And most importantly he’s adept at getting under the skin of opposing players, which has allowed him to draw numerous penalties this season. More penalties than he has taken. I guarantee if Rinaldo was on the Pens you’d be singing his praises for his production, but because he’s a Flyer, a team you despise and call dirty to begin with, you see him as contributing to the problem. But you’re wrong.

Here’s the bottom line – Flyers = last place in the division. Your argument is invalid. Obnoxious at times, not so young and far from dumb. Good percentage as a batter in baseball, not so much elsewhere. I said he has become very productive in his role as a pest and defender. In his last 17 games he has 7 minor penalties, four of which were concurrent with players such as Letang, Ovechkin and Alfredsson. At least one of the other penalties was not a penalty. So realistically he has put his team at a disadvantage twice in the last 17 games while drawing numerous penalties against the opposing teams. Players in his role are not judged by goals, assists and points. You know very little for a hockey braggart. I will mercifully end this Rinaldo debate with you as your hole has clearly caved in on you.

I just want you to answer one question, preferably with examples. When and why did I lose credibility “long ago” before this Rinaldo argument?

He’s tied for 8th in number of minor penalties, and some of his penalties are so freaking dumb…on a team that needs to stay out of the box to win. On a team that needs points badly. You indicated Rinaldo was out to hurt people. I mentioned Vitale and the hit because it was a hit that occurred in a point in the game that would not have affected the outcome and could only serve to injure Briere. Simple comprehension abilities should have allowed you to decipher this point. Instead your womanly instincts having you constantly employing a straw man argument. Flat out, you make idiotic statements that you cannot defend.

I don’t want to hear generalizations about Philly fans. I do not represent them and they do not represent me. Your credibility as a hockey fan, much less a knowledgeable one, has taken another hit. I can only take so much ignorance at once without alcohol, so I barely got through the first paragraph. I’m sure you’ve got your reasons as to why you think Rinaldo is a good hockey player…a lot of Philly fans would rather see hitting than scoring, and it seems that is working out for you this year perfectly. I think that’s an idiot’s game and will land your team in last place….right where they are. There’s no arguing that. Vitale is a fourth line plugger, and plays a defensive role….but is NOT a pest, nor is he a goon. He plays tough hockey, and is not out to hurt, to draw penalties, or to take them. PIM this year? 13. 13 total this year. Rinaldo gets that in one game. Comparing those two hockey players is silly, as is defending a goon who just hurt two hockey players far better than he is. The hit on Briere was a thing of beauty – a truly classy hit. He could have launched, like Schenn and Rinaldo normally do, and ENDED that little underachieving twerp’s career…instead he delivered a solid, clean hit. The only ones that thought that hit was something to get upset about are the Nancies living in the city of “brotherly love”….

I apologize thoughtwithdrawal, I had no idea I was arguing with a women. That is cool and I am fine with women being interested in and following hockey. Rinaldo draws more penalties than he takes. He has reduced his fighting but in his role of being an aggressive checker, he will hav to fight at times. Rinaldo has developed into more of th traditional hockey pest rather than a goon. If you paid attention or actually watched Flyers’ games you would know that. Instead you are a Pens’ fan with your head up your ass and no sense of objective reasoning. Oh, and listen little lady, it is not a blanket statement for all Pens’ fans. Plenty are objective and reasonable.

I was merely defending the player Rinaldo has become. I did not indicate whether I was for or against this style of play. I am for clean hockey plays personally and have no interest in seeing any players get hurt, including Penguins. What I find more interesting is the moral dilemma burdening you- rooting for a team were Joe Vitale attempts to hit Danny Briere late in a game when it was probably unnecessary, James Neal takes illegal runs at two payers during a playoff game on the same shift, Dave Engelland fills the role of enforcer, has reputed goon Steve MacIntyre in their system and in the past has employed former choir boys Darius Kaspiritis and Ulf Samuelsson. It must tear your soul apart.

I am pretty sure I made a pretty cogent argument in supporting my claims. You take the womanly route and make statements of little or no consequence to your point besides he is fifth in penalties taken (some of those penalties are on reputation alone this season more than actual infractions). Players can reform but it takes objective people to see that (ask Matt Cooke).

So if you would like to continue arguing from your feminine perspective and make statements you cannot back up that is fine and I will continue to acknowledge you for what you are. If not, please let me know where my credibility was lost “long ago,” which seems to imply in posts long before this article. If you cannot do this for the strength of your own argument, I would appreciate it for my own personal development.

Actually I don’t feel an obligation to explain anything to you – and I’m not sure why you felt you needed to chime in when you added nothing to the argument. It’s like arguing with a wall. He draws all these penalties, says you, but he’s also 5th in the league in penalties taken…so, unless he’s going after better players than him, to get them off of the ice (which in most cases is correct), his benefits are outweighed by his cost. So that brings up the interesting argument – the goon tactic of putting trash on the ice just to take penalties, go after real hockey players, try to hurt real players. I don’t like it, you obviously do, and that’s an inherent difference in how we see the game being played. I actually can’t STAND that tactic. And it’s earned the Flyers their current spot in the standings. You’re right…playoffs has NOTHING to do with it. Have a good day!

That brings his penalty minutes to 26, you enormous goat’s ass. Rinaldo has 78. Now please, compare those two for me again. Further, I don’t think Ovechkin was ever in any danger of being injured. That’s another difference. He did, however, lose his temper and chase Ovi around begging for a penalty – the extra two was a farce.

Also – I don’t really think you’re a goat’s ass, I just thought it added something to the argument.
