No, PhillyPhlyersPhan……….you didn’t get to the Cup in 2010. You came up short and lost. Which means you may as well have finished last with the rest of the teams that didn’t win the Cup. Only a Flyers fan would try to use getting to the Finals as some sort of trump card over a team that actually WON a cup in recent history (not to mention getting there twice in a row in doing so). But I guess that happens when your team hasn’t won anything since the Gerald Ford administration. Typical red-headed stepchild second best inferiority complex in Philly we’ve all come to know and love. Maybe that’s why you guys are always in the gutter lashing out at the world in embarrassingly juvenile fashion. And that’s why the country loves to hate you.

From that and other articles out around the time makes it sound like they were working on a trade to get the Flyers the number 1 d-man than needed. So instead of continuing to work on the trade he tried forcing their hand and it didn’t work and it cost the Flyers the number 1 d-man they were looking for.

He took a shot at trying to get one, but there are plenty of teams that the Preds could trade Weber to if they had him on the block. They could have started a bidding war.

It was no guarantee that if Weber hit free agency or was available for trade, he would be on the Flyers.

He meant we need those game for rivalry purposes for the sport, not so we sell out. We have 270 consecutive sell outs and we have played teams not named the flyers during that span. It’s a great rivalry and to put them in different divisions would be stupid for everyone involved. Speaking of goalies and beach balls, enjoy Bryz contract.

he basically said around 2009 when they where talking realignment that the penguins needed to be in the same division with the flyers cause of the intense rivalry and that they needed those games not surprised at that time he played well against Philly since then he hasn’t been able to stop a basketball

The loss of Pronger is definitely a killer to this team and a hard thing to remedy because getting a replacement will cost a lot in terms of money and player/picks. Philly could go the way of the Pens and start sandbagging to get more chances at the top pick for the next few seasons but, unlike the Pens organization the Flyers organization won’t resort to such low means to build a team. As we all know from past experience, the Pens fans would turn their backs on the Pens if they went into a prolonged losing streak. Hell they have been in the league as long as the Flyers and have filed for bankruptcy twice and have talked relocation twice while Philadelphia has had no such problems in keeping a fan base or even having the money to keep the franchise out of financial problems. In the end this team while having a down season right now, will turn the corner and be back near the top. I’m still not counting them out of the playoffs yet because anything can happen and there is still plenty of games left to make it back into playoff contention.

Losing a number 1 dman is way worse than losing a forward, no matter how productive that forward is. Without Letang you will see the Pens suffer a significant dropoff on the backend. And they weren’t very deep back there to begin with.

You missed my point entirely phillyphlyersfan. I was responding orginally to hockeyfan28 who said he put together a team that beats you guys alot the last couple of years. I was just pointing out that 2012 playoffs aside that isn’t entirely true. Congrats on 2012 im not ashamed of it even though i am a die hard pens fans. We lost it happens. I just am sick of flyer fans getting cocky because of that series saying they have our #. I don’t like to run my mouth to any team before any game because hockey is so unpredicatable that anyone can beat anyone else any given game. I understand that the 2012 playoff win against was like the cup for you guys im just asking that you tone it down when we play you guys because in all retrospect that series is history just like 08 is, and 09′s. Time to play in the present, and in the present your teams not that good. When your team plays ours yes the games are close but if we dont get into penalty trouble i think you can admit out of the 6 periods so far this season the pens have dominated 4 of them, but you wont here me saying the pens have the flyers # because when we play the games are always close. Thats what makes it a great rivalary.

The Flyers and Penguins both entered the league at the same time one had to file for bankruptcy and needed the financial support of the other to survive the other one didn’t.

Thats a terrible argument. You bring up how they won in 2008 and 2009 then pretend that 2012 doesn’t count. You come into this thread about Paul turning the team around and dig this kind of trash up? Paul took over the team in 2008 as head GM and took the team to the cup in 2010, you forget about that one too? The flyers were at the cup last, not the pens. So to stay on point with the original post, yes the flyers HAVE beat you guys a lot the last couple years, in fact its this season that seems to be the odd one out since paul took over. I agree with you, the crosby era has been good to pitt but that doesn’t change the fact how much they struggle against philadelphia. So just do everyone a favor and take it down a notch. The ’12 season really did happen and it wasn’t just a bad dream. It was Paul that put that team together and if you want to start talking about 07/08, 08/09 then ill show you the history before that.

overall holmgren was done a good job. and i don’t think he operates independently anyway. he most likely gets input from snider and luukko and could even execute the strategy the other — particularly snider–want. he has been aggressive — trading for pronger, trading richards and carter, signing bryz, trading jvr — are all pretty ballsy moves. the key issue with the flyers is their D hasn’t recovered from the pronger injury. maybe meszaros gets better as season goes on, but no pronger leaves a big void. and i think the jury is still out on the bryz deal. i guess you could say it is trending negatively, as he certainly hasn’t been consistent. but overall you can’t blame holmgren for the pronger injury. big, elite defensemen are rare and the flyers had one even if he was old.

also regarding the incessant pens vs flyers argument, bottom line is flyers currently have bragging rights because the eliminates pens last yr. regular season record is not really that important. so we will have to wait til this yr’s playoffs for the bragging rights to possibly change.
