I see what you are saying, but the announcement said it was the city of Ottawa, not the current Senators franchise, that is one of the major players in this commemoration. So in my view, any Cup victory by any of the city’s teams is relevant to this. Speaking of which, the current Thrasher/Jets haven’t won it, but the city of Winnipeg has had Stanley Cup champions: 1896, 1901, 1902. Not often, not lately, but not deniable!

Ottawa won the Stanley Cup in 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927.
