Video: Flyers’ Giroux does some dangling in the shootout

Mar 16, 2013, 6:00 AM EDT

The Philadelphia Flyers needed a win against the New Jersey Devils Friday – they would’ve been “done” otherwise.

So, it was the captain Claude Giroux who stepped up in the shootout, scoring on a beautiful move on Devils goalie Johan Hedberg.

It proved to be the winner, as the Flyers edged the Devils 2-1.

The goal didn’t take away from the fact Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov was solid, stopping 27 of 28 shots faced, after “Another disappointing loss” in the first game of this two-game set with the Devils on Wednesday.

“You need to play those tight games and tonight was the step in the right direction. We had to go to the shootout to get those two points but that’s what we have to do,” Flyers forward Simon Gagne told CSN Philadelphia.

“Do your job. The goalie did his job at the end.”

It was pretty nice…. Then you watch Datayuk go do his thing vs the oilers in mid game and you are like pffft, girouxs was nothing.

I always thought G would be turning into the next Datsyuk, crazy hands but better defensive minded forward.

Why is it that some of you know how to embed videos for iOS and.others don’t?

“modellforprez”…. youre either a caps fan from baltimore, or a blue jacket fan in cleveland. neither of those teams (or cities in general) have any kind of bragging rights over the flyers. i guess u musta just meant that YOU want to fock philly all day, and fock the flyers all night……eh to each his/her own.

Surprised to see no Pens fans on here talking about how Crosby would’ve made a move that blows that away and that Giroux is so over-rated.

Too busy watching the Pens shut out the Rangers today.

cerealrapist…android doesn’t play vids either. only option is to load stories in web browser. I’ve been complaining about this for a year now and no one at the IT dept wants to do anything about it. major flaw in the app.

How is it that philly fan always finds a way to turn everything in here about Crosby and/or the Penguins?

Putting down the Penguins and their fans won’t make Giroux or the Flyers any less overrated. Milbury and Mcguirre’s man crushes on Giroux won’t equal wins. This article is a joke, a way to keep the Flyers relevant because right now they’re not.

You guys had your “we won a playoff series parade” last year and it was a good series for the Flyers and their fans so move on.

    Giroux’s sucks…11th place….how’s that work

    • flatliness - Mar 16, 2013 at 7:39 PM

You’re an older guy, bob. You guys (yinz for the uneducated masses out there) have spent so many years in your life outside the playoffs you shouldn’t be one to taunt.

Giroux would probably be having a better year if someone hadn’t hacked his wrists and caused him to have surgery to repair them.
