Ok, well for one as of current the Penguins lead the league in scoring so it doesnt really matter whether or not its on powerplay or not they are getting the job done. Also, if the ended up getting the trade for Jarome they could place him on the first line (considering most wingers are reversible) then put Kunitz down with Malkin and Neal and incase everyone forgot them three last year were devastating. Crosby and Jarome would nearly be the same and the third line would then be slightly better considering people must be moved down. If the Penguins get Jarome it wouldnt matter they would outscore anyone even if Fleury miraculously let in 5 goals.

Dupuis-croz-kuitz is on fire, and bennett-geno-neal is awesome (when malkins healthy, of course)…

They really dont need anyone else on offense…and i for one would be upset if they gave up something for him

As much as I love Nathan Horton for what he did for the B’s in the playoffs, he is just not producing this year. I understand his contract is up at the end of the year as well. It might be nice to see Horton gone for Iginla in the top line, and actually see that line produce. Krecji has played winger and done quite well.

Where would he fit in LA’s lineup? It would be stupid to add another winger right now when LA is in need of defensemen. Plus he’s old. And quick has been less then great lately so I don’t think LA is eager to move Bernier right now.

Exactly, obviously Lebrun didn’t bother to talk to the local Calgary media, if he had he’d have discovered that its not exactly a secret around here that Iginla and Sutter really didn’t like each other very much by the end of Sutter’s reign, in fact the word hate was used to describe things. And since Iggy has a no trade clause he gets to dictate whether he’ll go to play with someone he doesn’t like.

You are right that the 14-87-9 line accounts for too many goals- which means the BOTTOM lines need help – not the top lines.

No rental – even Iggy – would come in and have the chemistry with Sid that Duper does, because it isn’t just about ability. Sid is pretty difficult to play with, and Iggy isn’t fast enough to keep up with him any more. So you don’t go out and spend a fortune on a big-name rental to fix something that isn’t broken. You go out an get a less expensive, solid 3rd/4th line guy that can help kill penalties and add a goal or two. Because that’s what they need – forward-wise anyway.

You know, I’ve read a lot of the Pittsburgh vs Philly comment wars and the one thing that I’ve always thought was absolutely stupid is the “bankruptcy” comments that a lot of you Philly fans throw out there. It’s like having two people arguing over what kind of sandwich is better and one person says “Your Mama’s fat!” It has absolutely no merit in the actual argument and proves nothing. So when one of you Philly guys throws that “bankruptcy” line out there all it proves is that there is nothing about actual hockey that you can say to make an argument that your team is better!

from what i remember reading, loktionov is a pure center. he is not great at playing either wing position. center for LA is very deep so he wasn’t going to get his chance there. as a devils fan, i’m happy about it…even if he winds up being a rental and goes back to the KHL or signs elsewhere after the season, a 5th round pick was next to nothing for how productive he’s been.

Oh – and my point – I’m not sure they don’t need some help on the second line. I’m not saying demote Bennett, lord knows Bylsma like to mix and match anyway. But I just don’t think you can say they need no more wings, based on how the scoring is broken up.

not with the corporate backing of nbc universal – or a population base of over 7 million in their metro area…bankruptcy would never be in the conversation with the 4th largest media market in the US. in fact philadelphia ranks higher than toronto and montreal too. snider made a killing when he sold it to comcast/nbc. with comcast doing their local coverage and with nbc having tv rights for nationally televised games they effectively “cornered the market”. nice to have that kind of luxury with a market so large. if you are trying to take a shot at the penguins organization, maybe you should do some research into history, market potential, and the revenue streams before you try to compare apples to brussell sprouts. flyers werent selling out the spectrum when they were in the nhl basement 89-94 though either buddy.

I would say Boston or LA has the most need for him but whether they’ll actually pull the trigger is another thing. They can’t give up any roster players with the exception of the maybe Peverley, otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose. There in a good spot now. Subtracting anything, even to add Iginla is counterproductive….in my humble opinion.

I’d hope the Kings would hold out for at least a decent draft pick in a potential trade of Bernier for Iginla, seeing as how Iginla can’t have much time left in his career.
Trading Bernier to get Iginla for this season and maybe next might be too expensive.

Well, the Crosby-Kunitz-Dupuis line has accounted for 32 of Pittsburgh’s 68 even-strength goals. James Neal only has 9 even-strength goals, while Malkin has 2 ESG. Worth noting is Sutter has 6 ESG. There’s no doubt the Penguins are top-6 heavy. If anything, they need scoring from their bottom 6.

I’ve also heard about Jack Johnson, but I agree.. he’s not a stay-at-home guy. Any team that has that shut-down d-man, covets him and doesn’t want to keep him. I look at the Hal Gill / Rob Scuderi combo from years past and think that’s what they’re lacking.

So many things wrong I don’t know where to start.

First the purpose from the Flames perspective of trading Iginla is not to repeat the cycle of having one player try to carry the franchise. Yes Kipper is getting older, but the Flames won’t trade their best asset to acquire a second top tier goaltender, if you think of Bernier in that context, when you can only play one goaltender at a time. Also the suggestion that the flames have a great void in goaltending depth has never rung hollower over the last 13 years than it does today. Kipprusoff misses 13 games and the fames are closer to the playoffs than they were before he went down.

Iggy does have an existing relationship with Sutter, but what is that relationship? It is well known that Iginla didn’t always agree with Sutter’s idea that a perfect game is 1 – 0. Sutter was often quoted as saying of the Flames that they were a “Difficult group to coach”, Likely because the on ice leadership, Iginla, didn’t see things Sutter’s way.

The purpose of Trading Iginla is twofold. Get younger, and get Iggy a cup. The Kings might offer Iggy a cup opportunity, but expecting the flames to give up and additional draft pick is counterproductive from the Flames stand point.

Consider also, that the Flames are likely not looking to send Iginla anywhere they will have to play him 6 times a year.
