Comparing him to Elias is comparing apples to oranges. This is a kid who is still on his rookie contract that leads the team in assists, is averaging over 25 minutes a game, chipping in with blocked shots and hits, and has been a consistently positive presence on the back end (as evinced by his team-leading plus minus). In contrast, Shea Weber has similar offensive numbers over that span of time, with a similar plus minus, yet has a cap hit thats over $2 million more than Ekman-Larsson’s deal, and is being paid up to $26 million this season, nearly 5 times as much as Ekman-Larsson is set to make. The coyotes came away with a massive deal on this guy.
