Could Simmonds back off a little and “nudge” him? Maybe. Its a tough situation, and the intent to injure was not there like in the later Gerbe hit…

It is the NHL. If player let up on someone like that, it would mean losing the physical edge to the game.

I am a sabres fan, and I have to say, sometimes you can’t put yourself in that situation, Sorry ENZO, but you are wrong…

no, not the entire time. He was behind ennis, so he saw his numbers, put himself next to him so they were shoulder to shoulder, then moved in for the hit followed by ennis putting his numbers to him again less than a sec after simmonds went in for the hit.

Yes it does and yes I do. Lemme guess you’re the type of loser that gets run over by a guy, and a teammate comes to fight the guy who did it and you’re unappreciative unless he wins.
So I’ll repeat, only some buffoon who never played a team sport in his life, criticises the guy for sticking up for his teammate like the above poster.

I have to say I disagree with you. While at one point Simmonds was behind Ennis he was shoulder to shoulder with him at the point of contact. As Ennis was about to be hit he turned and got slammed forward instead of sideways into the boards. I would say the ‘awkwardness’ that he hit him stems from the turning motion that Ennis was initiating as the hit occurred. Had Ennis keep on his path none of this would have happened the way it did. It would make sense to me that Ennis was unaware that Simmonds was there and that he was about to be hit and that would be why he thinks it was a dirty hit.

Not saying that Simmonds is incapable of a dirty hit now and then but this one wasn’t dirty, it was unfortunate timing.

I gotta agree with hockeywithdrawal. What’s meaningful hockey to you may not be meaningful to anyone else. Just because you play in some adult league or played pee wee growing up doesn’t mean you know more about the game than everyone else on PHT. Yes you should stick up for your teammates but it probably would’ve been more effective if someone like Ott dropped the gloves.

I think you need to watch the video a little closer. They are CLEARLY shoulder to shoulder then Ennis turns the exact second Simmonds makes contact. Nothing about that play is illegal or dirty. The Luke Schenn hit I won’t argue about, but that play didn’t warrant a penalty and certainly isn’t suspendable.

Alright bud let’s NOT pretend to know each other, or what our hockey experience has been. Or pretend to know more than the next guy on here about hockey. I read all those “you don’t know anything about hockey” comments and all I can think are those comments are from guys who are clearly 12 years old playing Pee Wee or from the most arrogant, obnoxious and useless class of society. Those that know more than everyone else…how pointless for the rest of the minions to argue. I will withhold any further opinion about YOU as a person, because I don’t believe, for all your “meaningful hockey experience” that “misterchainbluelightning” was mentioned in the article/video that I was commenting on, nor do I believe you’ve ever, for all your meaningful hockey experience, been mentioned in an article on hockey.

In this case, Weber stuck up for him by continually bashing his face off of Simmonds’ fist. Don’t go through the motions of sticking up for someone “just because”. Make the Eff’er pay, if you’re going to do it.

it was a hit from behind deserved a 2 min penalty for the hit no suspension but definitely a penalty.

Simmonds was looking at his numbers 100% of the time. That’s all you need to know, regardless if Ennis turned or not. You can’t do that, hit someone and then say it was clean.

Btw is there no video that shows the replay? It’s hard to see what happened at that speed.

Pretty much simmonds was behind Ennis, then got next to Ennis and went to hit him from the side and Ennis started turning after the hit was coming. I think initial contact is shoulder to back of the shoulder due to the turn.

Can’t blame simmonds for getting next to Ennis and not knowing Ennis was going to turn.

I can see why Ennis is upset but only sabres fans thought that was worthy of suspension.

FYI the idea is to show your teammates you are willing to stick up for them, win or lose.

You and 4 others atm are those fringe hockey fans who like the game but really don’t understand the players.

Nothing wrong with the hit until Ennis turned mid hit. I thought between that and weber skating from one end of the ice to the other to star a fight with someone whose back is turned to weber after the whistle…. Webers was a bit more of something that should have been a suspension. If simmonds did not turn to see this guy coming at him weber prob would have ended simmonds career.
