flyers aren't dead yet. even if they lose to nj fri nite, they still can compete for 8th seed. and if they get in anything can happen.

that being said, flyers have been in a downward spiral since pronger injury. that really destabilized the defense and it hasn't recovered. and meszaros injuries didn't help. couple that with bryz as goalie. that was a bad choice. listen to the crap that comes out of his mouth. and compare him to someone like brodeur. their professionalism is night and day. i am ok with the carter and richards trades. carter came up short and/or was injured in big games incl playoffs. and richards had alleged off-ice issues. the haul in return -- simmonds, b schenn, voracek, couturier -- wasn't bad at all. but the root cause was pronger injury coupled with giving the keys to the goalie position to a flake like bryz. he reminds me so much of cechmanek. also the jvr for l schenn trade was a desperate move to shore up the pronger-less defense.

i think the next move might be to bench bryz. he has become undependable.

19to77, that is the most intelligent statement i have heard about the flyers all season. Once bryz starts thinking hes in a hole he cant get it together and falls apart. The big difference this season is that the flyers dug the hole.

Like i said in another post, it's like deja vu, every article is exactly the same day in and out but with a different headline. Flyers look to get back on track, flyers need their mojo, must win for philly tonight..etc,etc,etc. Bryzgalov has been good and bad, and still not the biggest issue. Enough already with, well this is such a young team packed with stars so they will be fine. Every team is young, philly doesnt even rank in the top 5 of youngest teams, that argument is getting old. Then it turns into trades for top flight D-men in return for aging stars with high salaries, no one wants that. Every post has luongo thrown in there as well, he'll be 34, he chokes each yr with a much better team and a way better D in front of him, so I dont see how he is the savior and to get him it would require giving up one of those young players, might i add that hasnt shown any signs that they will be superstars. Good players, yes, stars, no.

The fans and management need to come to the realization that the team needs a few seasons for rebuilding to be competitive. That does not mean shipping off young talent and signing aging veterans as band aids. The Flyers draft very well overall, so start moving some of the older pieces to competitive teams headed to the playoffs for some picks to build around the core they want to keep. It also means properly valuing what they have. I like the players on this team, but in no way is this squad just brimming with so much talent only a few minor tweaks or added player are needed to make it pop and end up in the finals like a few years ago. Also, no one in the league is beating down the door to throw them first round picks and top-caliber players for the young players people on here go on about so much. This team is mediocre. So the choice is to keep on this this 'tomorrow is a new day, we can do better' while holding the team back, or call a spade a spade and realize that in today's league, they will not make a deep run. In Philadelphia we're used to always having a competitive squad that makes the playoffs every year, we don't get high picks and marquis talent in the great ebb and flow like a lot of teams, the penguins come to mind. The Flyers instead used to rely on heart and guts and fight to get wins and make a run. I do not see any heart and guts or fight in this team. Time to make a big change and maybe watch a few losing seasons while it happens. I'm ok with that.

President Charles Logan, that comment is idiotic. Retreads? They have an extremely young team with a lot of talent. The problem is defense and a goaltender who has been hung out to dry. He's now exhausted as a result. They need a dominant defensemen and some rest. That's all.
Dude, just listen to the guy. He's just about completely defeated. Last season, he was almost impossibly bad. This season, he finally starts looking like he's figured it out just in time for everyone ELSE to suck and fail. And now, because the ignorant media and fans are giving him all the blame for team-wide incompetence (yes, he's part of the problem, but nowhere NEAR the biggest one), his confidence is back to where it was last year. Poor guy's really trying this year (not always successfully, fair), but it's going to waste with the team around him.

Dude, just listen to the guy. He’s just about completely defeated. Last season, he was almost impossibly bad. This season, he finally starts looking like he’s figured it out just in time for everyone ELSE to suck and fail. And now, because the ignorant media and fans are giving him all the blame for team-wide incompetence (yes, he’s part of the problem, but nowhere NEAR the biggest one), his confidence is back to where it was last year. Poor guy’s really trying this year (not always successfully, fair), but it’s going to waste with the team around him.

I remember when the flyers first signed bryz in one of his press conferences he was joking and said other goalies told him not to sign in Philly. That Philly is hard on goaltenders. He was laughing then and now he has no words to describe this teams play. Wonder if Bryz is bought out if he will "warn" future goaltenders to stay clear of Philly too.
