With eight wins in their last 12 games, the Winnipeg Jets (13-11-2) can move into a playoff spot tonight with a win over the eighth-place Rangers (13-10-2) at the MTS Centre. Both teams have 28 points, but New York has a game in hand.

The Jets are coming off a dominant 5-2 victory over the Leafs on Tuesday. They also beat the Rangers, 4-3, the last time they faced them on Feb. 26 at Madison Square Garden.

“I think you can’t take your foot off the pedal, that’s the first thing, we don’t want to get back to mediocrity,” Winnipeg head coach Claude Noel said Wednesday.

“I think last night we were proud of the way we played and that’s the way we need to continue to play.”

Jets captain Andrew Ladd, with 13 points in his last 11 games, has been especially good lately.

The Rangers, meanwhile, aren’t entering tonight’s game in such a great mood.

It’d be cool to see them in the playoffs

If they used their old sweaters..

Ladd has quietly evolved from a good third-liner or middling second-liner to a point-per-game player. When and how did he get that good?

Beats me. I’m a Jets fan and I’m still baffled. He’s playing quite well this year, extra jump in his stride.

I want to see the Jets win mostly because I want to see another Tortorella post game side show. Also the Jets have some awesome fans and i really want that team in the playoffs this year.

I’d worry about my team having to play them in round one. I think it would take a lot if they’re playing focused..

although the rangers for the most part have been playing some good hockey, that loss to Buffalo pissed me the f–k off to many penalties which turn the momentum over to Buffalo. the rangers rt now need to for one, beat wpg tonight and start playing playoff style hockey from here on out. to many teams in the rear view mirror they need to get the points and bet the teams that matter.

    NYR – 1
    WPG – 6

    Press conference:

Sam Rosen: I’ll ask you again. What happened? This time we did ask the players, and they said to ask you.

TORTS: I’m not giving credit to Atlanta or whatever they call themselves, for the win. It was those players on the Rangers who sucked!

Obviously the coaching was perfect, it was done by me, and they wasted it!
    They wasted my expertise!

I won a cup once before damn it! Why doesn’t anyone remember!

Sam Rosen: Cause you’re a douche! Enjoy coaching the Tallahassee Wart Hogs next season. While I’ll still be calling games here and the NFL!
