Even the commentators said that’s what happens when you admire your pass and not pay attention. You’re allowed to finish your check and Perry had him lined up. Hope Zucker’s ok. Typical mistake. It’s hockey. It’s physical. Amazing how most if not all blow it out of proportion for a common play on the ice.

As far as the league review goes, I think the big issue with this hit is that Perry left his feet to make the hit. That is definitely a no-no.

I can and will say it with a straight face all day. Watch the video. The contact is with Zucker’s chest not his head. Zucker’s head hit the ice causing the injury, you can see it bounce when he lands on the ice. The league will try to placate Wild fans because it’s an injury. They did the same last year in the playoffs between the Rangers and Ottawa. As I’ve said before, had Zucker’s head not hit the ice and had he not been injured we wouldn’t be discussing this. To each his own.

Yes, in that he was able to skate off with help, not be carried off in a stretcher. That alone means he appeared to be alright and may only miss a couple of games depending on how bad a concussion he has. It’s a positive sign.

He appeared to be alright?

He was motionless on the ground for about 3 minutes, needed help skating to the locker room, and didn’t return.

This is his 3rd concussion, so I just hope his career isn’t over

Contact with the head is an accepted fact about this hit that only you are trying to deny. I hope you’re not saying shoulder to the chest with a straight face.

The same type of hit happened to Marc Staal a couple of years ago except it was his brother that did it. That’s why they tell the players keep your head up. Perry was looking for the hit and didn’t let up, there’s no question about that, but he’s as guilty of headhunting as much as Cooke was of trying to cut Karlsson’s leg. Accidents happen in a contact sport.

but he didn’t hit his head and wasn’t aiming for it. It was a shoulder to his chest. Zucker’s head hit the ice, causing the injury. Had Perry wanted to hit him in the head, it would’ve been easy to do so.

Dirty, cheap, embarrassing. Perry should be suspended at least 10, but can’t be by phone. If it was a player from my team who delivered that hit, I could no longer support him. I hope he receives payback in spades. This was a WWE style hit, which is why hockey is regarded by many as a goon sport. I am sick of it, but you can expect more until someone is truly made an example of. Give one lifetime suspension, and you will never see another Perry, Torres, Cooke, Bertuzzi style hit again.

What’s your definition of headshot? Zucker’s head is the first and main point of contact, whether Perry aimed there or not.

I agree with your view of the hit not “being any more vicious than any other” about as much as I agree that Perry “tried to let up.”

It was a late hit by Perry, that is all. It was not a elbow, not a headshot, it was simply just a late hit and it looked a lot worse than it was. Glad Zucker is ok, but late hits happen all the time, he got his major, misconduct, and I am sure he will get 2-3 games.

If the league were serious about ridding itself of these types of hits it would make an example of Perry here. Since the hearing is via phone, that obviously won’t be the case here. This is one of the dirtiest cheapshots you will see- this one approaches Cooke / Savard territory. And we all saw how the league threw the book at that loser Cooke on that one. Errrr, wait…

Honestly, I don’t see the hit being anymore vicious than any other. Yes, it was a late hit and an interference penalty, but in reality the damage was done cause the kid had his head down and didn’t see it coming. While he didn’t have any reason to expect the hit, that’s hockey. I’m glad he appeared all right and hope he won’t miss many games, but I don’t see how this was a meant to injure the player. Had Zucker’s head not his the ice and knocked him out, there wouldn’t even be a discussion about it.

Perry is right about being committed, but he’s wrong about trying to let up. The puck is back by the blue line, and has been for a while, but Perry has already decided he’s going to lay Zucker out anyway. Hand leaves the stick, goes in elbow/shoulder first (hard to tell which, doesn’t matter) to Zucker’s head…

I’d like to see Perry take some time to think about this. Watch from 0:22-25. Getzlaf and Ryan have already stopped and started skating back the other way toward the puck – and Perry tried to let up?

This is the first time i have seen this hit (live in Mn, No Cable, No Wild) he could of easily stopped moving on that play what a cheap shot. Also saw on another post the this dude is a cheap artist lets hope for a 5 game. Also I’m hoping our up and coming rookie is going to be ok he is playing lights out right now.
