Boston Bruins center Chris Kelly is out indefinitely with a broken left tibia (shinbone), the club announced today.

Kelly suffered the injury Monday in a leg-on-leg collision with Ottawa forward (and Kelly’s good friend) Chris Neil.

The club didn’t provide an estimate for how long Kelly will be sidelined, but’s Joe Haggerty speculates it could be around six weeks.

Kelly has two goals and four assists in 23 games, but it’s not his offense the Bruins will miss. The 32-year-old kills penalties and has won around 60 percent of the faceoffs he’s taken this season.

Wow…hard one to figure out? When Neil’s leg caught him below the knee, Neil was already half way past him…looks like Kelly took the shock next to his shin guard rather than square on. Hope the break is well below the joint. Six weeks including hyperbaric chamber then rehab?

Pretty much solidifies the notion that they’ll make a move for a forward now. I think the argument can be made for a shut down, “stay at home” defenseman too but with Kelly out, their forward depth is somewhat of an issue. They’ve been fortunate with injuries so far this season. They have the cap room and a couple of prospects who can help to fill any holes in the line-up. Best case scenario, they make a move to improve and then Kelly comes back for the playoffs.

Took the words out of my mouth…surely that king of ass clowns will pipe up sooner or later. He can’t not make a stupid comment about a Bruins post, its a pathological thing. He must be at pee wee practice…

Hate to see such hard worker get sidelined by such a serious injury but I don’t think the hit had any injury intent. The upside is that it opens up a slot for Iginla to come onboard in a couple of weeks. If Soderberg decides to play with the big boys watch out kids!

Where are you getting this Iginla info !?!!? I would love it if he became a Bruin….maybe send Paille, Ference and a high pick or two for him ?

        Ference has zero trade value
