And as it stands now, Daugavins’ “puck handling” makes it impossible for him to elevate the puck. Rask played the move masterfully, but Rask had to know that the probability of puck elevation was next to nothing.

Not sure why Krecji has a problem with it. I think Daugavins should develop the move more–if he can set it up the same way while he’s moving toward the net and then somehow flip his stick over and top-shelf it, no goalie could stop it.

He did it 3 years ago here in Bingo against Hamilton and it work. The only problem with it was it went Viral after that. I gotta believe Rask (i just can’t call anyone Tuuka, sorry) new it was coming. Dog’s needs a counter move off of it for the trick to be REALLY awsome otherwise goalies will stop it all day!

wouldve been better if he got it on the toe after skating and stickhandling with it normally for a while. i’ve seen 8 year olds do the exact same move, not that hard for a guy to do, much less for a goalie to stop….poke check works great here.

If they really want the game to finish quickly in OT, why not go 3 on 3 for 3 min or whatever how much after the first 4 on 4, 5 minute period is over. Then If its not settled something is wrong with both teams! either they just can’t score or their goalies are standing on their heads!

having read the intro to the video, and seeing what he was about to do when the video started, the save is all I watched the video for. being a goalie, I know how hard it is to make a save when a player has THAT much control over the puck. EXCELLENT save.

if the shooter had figured a way to actually get a shot off the ice when the goalie is thinking the puck is basically grounded, it woulda been an excellent move. the way he did it though, I’ve seen so many high schoolers try and succeed at stickhandling like that. nothing impressive there.

Maybe DK meant that if you’ve seen that before, it is not a hard save for the goalie. There is no way to elevate the puck. With the size of the goalies these days, taking away all six feet on the ice is not difficult. Now that the suprise element is gone, I don’t think you’ll see this move again.

I agree with you about the overtime period. I think that if they made it a ten minute overtime period a lot more games would be decided without the need for the shoot-out. I can’t say that I hate the shoot-outs but it does leave you with a really crappy feeling when your team loses that way. I know that the NHL wants the games to not take too long but I really don’t think that an extra five minutes will hurt them, and besides, I’m pretty sure that most people would agree that the four on four overtimes are pretty darn entertaining…..

Wow. Points for trying at very least. It seemed to me that he slowed down a bit towards the end of the spin and that’s what allowed Rask to get the toe across.

Phil Bourque of the Penguins tried a similar style move in a game coming on a breakaway controlling the puck like that in the early 90′s. He didn’t score and Badger Bob Johnson was not to happy him trying that move.

Isnt the shootout often referred to as the skills competition? And dont you need skill to score a goal or block a shot? Should they get rid of the penalty shot and just give a standard 2 min minor? If shootout goals actually counted for/against a players goals for/allowed total I could see your point. Its a game, someone has to win and someone has to lose. And since its the regular season, the game has to end sometime. They aint fish!

Hockey is entertainment. All of you “diehards” really need to realize that. I have no problem being entertained and Daugavins move was definitely entertaining. Have to agree with Iron Mike’s post-game assessment on Sportsnet: The shootout has little to do with determining outcome of a game played at six aside for sixty minutes then five aside for another five minutes; the shootout is a gimmick and it’s all about entertainment when a fairly played game at equal strength is in and of itself sufficient hockey entertainment! Daugavin’s attempt, like shootouts generally, discredits the game while turning it into a circus sideshow! Bring on the clowns, there ought to be clowns, oh wait, there already here…

Do you think he would have been called for interference or something if it went in? It looked like he stepped on Tuukka’s stick as he made that spin. Either way it was a hell of a save and a solid come from behind win by the B’s. Love to see the 4th line producing the last few games, gonna need it tomorrow in Pittsburg!

What a move. Watched it on gamecenter. What’s their to complain about with that move? I’ve seen a ton of spin-o-rama moves where the shooter borderline stops the puck from moving forward that are a lot worse than the move daugavins made.
