If the NHL is considering doing an outdoor game in a warm clime, they should forgo the ice and have the teams play an exhibition game in shorts and roller blades. They should think outside the box and and make it part of a multi sport extravaganza inviting XGames and UFC to stage events along with it so NHL can be exposed to the young and growing market those sports enjoy. Just a thought.

With all the Jerry Sandusky stuff even Bettman isn't stupid enough to give that kind of publicity to Penn State. Not to mention that Philly or Pittsburgh have been in every single Winter Classic thus far except for one. You have to give other teams a chance. There's plenty of great fanbases. It's bound to happen eventually, though. State College is literally almost smack dab in the center of the state between Philly and Pittsburgh and those 2 markets would have no problem filling up the 100,000+ at Beaver. It would be a true-blue showdown of the keystone state at "center ice".

Agreed. When they did the game at Heinz field it was in the 40's and I remember the constant updates on how much trouble they were having keeping the ice from thawing. That's part of the reason why they had the move the game to primetime. Can you imagine trying to maintain it in LA?

Manchestermiracle - Whatever side of the debate you're on, you do have to acknowledge that it's pretty strange that it's been 4 decades since that the last supposed landing, eh? :)

Hey man, seriously ... this Quick business is concerning me a little. I know he played well the other night and all, but there's something about his play which is making me nervous this year? Hopefully it's nothing more than getting back into "form" after the surgery in September? We'll see in going forward, however it sure is nice to have someone like Bernier riding along as copilot eh ! :)

Why did they ever let you back? And it certainly wouldn't surprise me if an idiot like you believed that it was a hoax, but anyone with a "schtick" (you) when they post in comment section and uses multiple sign-ins to agree with himself (you again) is a mental case in need of meds. (most certainly you) Oh and you're a know-nothing clueless buffoon who said that Cory Schnieder was a top 3 goalie in the NHL just before you got IP banned.

This place was SO much better with out you and your "joey" sign in.

Has the league ever watched an outdoor game? They're fun, but the ice is terrible. And that is in cities like Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Philly. Can only imagine the difficulty they would have preparing the ice and actually paying on it in L.A. And as a Canucks fan, I would love to watch my team play in front of 50,000 fans, but B.C. Place would also be an awful venue in my opinion. When I went to watch the Grey Cup there in 2011, I kept asking myself "this is really what a $500 million renovation gets you?". The half a billion dollar roof they recently installed barely opens and would provide even less of an outdoor atmosphere than L.A. Keep the outdoor games to cold cities with nice outdoor stadiums.

“They put a man on the moon" ...

No they did not! Somebody needs to tell Walter that man has never left the Earth’s orbit and the Apollo programme was the biggest “non-violent” hoax of the 20th century! Among other things, he should consider the following:

- visible footprints from astronauts yet no imprint from an 8 ton lunar module ?
- identical lunar horizons from frame to frame ?
- blatantly inconsistent shadow lines from frame to frame ?
- comical flag waving motion in a supposed "airless" atmosphere ?
- coke can clearly seen on the ground in various frames ?
- Stanley Kubrick hired onto the project during the filming of 2001 Space Odyssey ?

In all seriousness ... even as a King's fan, I agree with Bettman that the WC should be reserved for those venues which can offer an "atmosphere" of wintry charm. Staging it in either So Cal or Vancouver would be a mistake and a complete squandering of resources. The primary purpose of the event is to further fan interest and so it would be far better to continue staging it in either the US Northeast or Midwest.
