Hejduk takes away time from Palushaj who is bringing great energy and physicality to the third line with O’Reilly and Mitchell. Hejduk knew going into this season that his role would be different and that being a healthy scratch could become a reality. With a healthy squad, that’s how it’s going to be whether he’s healthy or not. There’s no room on a 4th line with Bordy and McLeod…those guys need an energy bringing center like Olver or Kobasew. There’s nothing wrong with this – but the Avs historically love living in the past with players from the good ole days – you produce or you don’t, and that’s how a NHL club should be ran.

Relating to this article: It’s about time Willy makes it back – he’s the #2 guy on this team who brings a physical presence, in addition to offensive vision – he has been missed. As far as Barrie goes, his future is bright, however, the Avs have too many guys on one way contracts to be healthy scratching them if they’re playing well. There’s still a spot for him if Zanon/Hunwick drop off. I don’t see them scratching anyone else, though. O’Byrne is practically a pylon and I don’t think he’s been scratched in his entire Avalanche career.
