The Flyers get some much needed help for their deplete defense this afternoon in the form of Andrej Meszaros.

Philly GM Paul Holmgren announced they’ve activated Meszaros from injured reserve and he’ll be in the lineup this afternoon against Boston. Meszaros has missed 21 games this season with a bum shoulder and the depths the team has had to go to cover for injured and ineffective players have hurt their performance.

While the team is in ninth place in the Eastern Conference they haven’t had issues scoring goals, but rather in keeping teams off the board themselves. You don’t have to look any further than their game Thursday night against Pittsburgh that saw them blow a 4-1 first period lead en route to an embarrassing 5-4 loss.

With players getting healthy and returning to the lineup, now is the time for the Flyers to prove what exactly they’ve got going on and whether or not it’s time for Holmgren to start making moves to get them into the postseason.

They could also use the Watson brothers, Ed Van Impe, Behn Wilson, Moose DuPont, Mark Howe, Doug Crossman and Brad McCrimmon (RIP).

You hit on a great point ! I have only come up with one defenseman since those days that the flyers drafted now that’s drafted not acquired through a trade that was a servicable defenseman for some years and that was Chirs Therian ! I hope bryz dose not get pulled today I want him to be beat like a rented mule ! The dude is so slow getting up and side to side and at point blank range straight on he is a joke that just about covers all the areas a goaltender needs to play well at to be successful and he is doing none of them !

      What a disgrace. Pitiful.

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 9, 2013 at 1:51 PM

This is some of the worse flyers hockey I have ever watched in 43 years ! Plus the goaltending is down right close to the days of doug favell when you sat with sweaty palms hoping he would make a save ! You can thumbs down me all you want THIS IS A NO PLAYOFF SEASON I will be here to the end to tell you I TOLD YOU SO !

5 Ahole 26 don’t confuse me with a front runnin bandwagoner like yourself when what Iam saying is the truth !

    • phillyphanatic77 - Mar 9, 2013 at 3:00 PM

Just shut the hell up already. How many times are you gonna say the same crap? It wasnt clever the first time you said it, and it sure as hell isn’t clever now. Philadelphia fans do not desert our teams when they’re down. And that’s what separates real fans from whatever you are. Ahole the king of trolls retains his crown.

Sean Couturier only played 2:52 of 1st period but was on the ice for 2 of the 3 goals. This guy couldn’t shut down a iPhone, let alone a star player. His stock has fallen sooo much. Tough times in Philly.

Did you see when Malkin threw him to the ice like he wasn’t even there ?

      • sportsfreak13 - Mar 9, 2013 at 2:49 PM

Haha yea. That kids confidence is shot right now. Not sure what he needs to do to regain it, but he’s playing like the lockout never ended.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Mar 9, 2013 at 3:16 PM

He has zero confidence right now. He’s just got progressively worse as the season has gone along. He used to be really responsible with the puck but right now he’s so down on himself and pressing, which leads to turnovers. And his turnovers have been backbreaking. He just needs one good game to build off, whether that’s an assist, a goal, or just getting back to playing his style of hockey. Still has a high ceiling but a lack of confidence can make your game toxic.

Great win for the B’s, but I was really disappointed in the effort put out by Philly today. I was hoping for some Broad St. Bullies, but they had nothing! I always look forward to a war when they come to town, but they were totally flat.Oh well, bring on the Sens then. Go B’s!.

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 9, 2013 at 4:11 PM

It looked like the Bruins almost felt sorry for the flyers !

Meanwhile, Fraude Giroux, the best player in the world and “monstrous leader”, was another -1 today with zero points.

wat a pathetic performance by the worst team in the league. how amusing it is too see all the flyers fans say they turned it off after the first period. aint nuthin like a bandwagoner
