Video: Blue Jackets’ Calvert scores end-to-end winner

Mar 8, 2013, 12:34 AM EDT

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Matt Calvert went five games without scoring a goal and only has four in 21 games overall, but he scored a beauty (and big one) to give his team a 2-1 OT win against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

NHL.com goes as far as to call this effort a video game goal:

Somewhat amusing to see the Jackets team celebrate like they’ve just advanced to the conference semi-finals

Not nearly as amusing as it is to see the Canucks lose.

Still, it’s good to see some happiness in Columbus, good on them!

That’s almost exactly how I score in NHL 13

3rd straight overtime win for the Jackets and 5th game in a row with points. Bobo started again in goal, hopefully it’s clear to the management who the #1 guy is by now.

That is some stellar defensive work right there.

Sedin basically gave up on the back check to cover the slot, where the D man was already standing. Then looked high to cover the trailer but by then he left the slot and the right wing posted up at the side of the net wide open. He should have stuck with the back check and forced the play into the corner. I’d put that goal on Sedin’s back.

The Sedin sisters are bad at defense? You don’t say.

How can his impulse be to stand there while a guy is in front of the net with the net? Playing the pass while it’s four on four. Please fire Gillis now.
