I agree…the reffing is abysmal and there seems to be no accountability whatsoever. I have watched for years and have never seen it so bad.

The coaches and players should be able to say whatever they want to the refs. And the refs should be given fairly powerful bb guns to deal with it.

In all honesty, we’ve all got a little homer in us – we all have a hard time seeing things completely impartially – HOWEVER – the refs have been downright pitiful this year (didn’t watch this game, have no idea what happened here). They can’t even decide what THEY want the rules to be, you can’t be surprised that coaches are surprised. More than any year I can remember, there’s so much confusion. That confusion is the fault of the officials. No consistency.

And honestly who the hell penalizes a coach AFTER a game and what type of league suspends an ASSISTANT coach? All this tells me is that the league and refs have no integrity and in a sport which has fighting, they just made themselves look like MARYS

Islanders arent whiners first of all. Second of all they have every right to complain being bullied by the NHL and its refs for ratings game in and game out. Thirdly, Nash literally football tackles Okposo and there isnt even a holding call. And here’s a fun fact: In only 3 NHL games this season the home team was not awarded one power play. Take a wilddd guess who the home team was for two of those games. Coincidence? I think not. Corruption at its finest.

Wait a minute: “they worked hard tonight and they deserved at least one or two power plays”? I thought power plays were awarded to you when the opposition commited a foul? Oh wait – this is the NHL, I forgot. My bad… I suppose.

The officials will take some static from a veteran Head Coach, less from a newer Head Coach like Capuano, and almost nothing from a no name Assistant. To quote the great philosopher Duane Johnson, “Know your role!”

I was wondering what the “team staff” penelty on the score sheet at the end of the game was all about. Makes you wonder what he said since coaches yell nasty stuff at the refs all the time and don’t even get penelties for it… so it must have been pretty bad to get a two game suspension.

Also, this is part of the problem with hockey right now…. the notion that penelty calls should be about even in every game. They shouldn’t be, unless it just so happens to work out that way. The refs should call them as they see them at the time, and not consider whos had more power plays… other wise they should just do away with penelty calls and let teams take turns having a man advantage.

Anyway, when it came to last night I don’t know what the Islanders were whining about. Sure the Rangers had four more power plays then they did… but the call in overtime was about as clear a penelty as it gets. If their argument is simply that its not fair for the penelty count to be 4-0…. thats a weak argument, because sometimes thats just how it goes.
