I think we’re all forgetting a couple things here. Big one is, Selanne may not LOOK 42, but he is. We have to assume this is his last year, and even if it’s not, there’ll only be one more. Additionally, Koivu’s 38 and while he’s white-hot this year, his production in the last two years has been dismal. Those are two nearly point-per-game guys for them this season, but they can’t be counted upon to do it again next year – if Selanne even decides to keep going.

Point is, it’d be insane to give up Perry with two of their most productive guys this year unlikely to do the same next year. Where would the Ducks be if they lost Perry AND Teemu, and Koivu reverted to his 40-point form next year?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but he’s going to be a UFA so they can’t trade him at the draft. In either case, their choices are to keep and and make a cup run or trade him for less than he is worth bc of his pending UFA status. They could trade him and get something but they’ll still be worse off without him. They’re legit this year so I say they decide to make a cup run instead. That’s much better for their franchise than anything they would get in a trade at this point.

they’re a cup contender, only team standing in their way is chicago. that being said i think they would be foolish to trade him, but crazier things have happened. i watched the game last night against phoenix because i heard they were gonna play the big 3 together again. he looked real good. their pp is #1. boudreau has them playing like the caps played back in 09-10 only they have better defensive ability and goaltending than the caps did. i would see how the season goes and negotiate before free agency hits. either way, if they win or not, he is gonna get big money, you gotta try to get what you can from him while you have him.

This talk of trading Perry is utterly foolish. With the way the Ducks are playing right now, they should do everything they can to keep him AND Getzlaf. especially since they are now a Playoff Contender. If not, we’ll be happy to take him off your hands.

How about Perry-Crosby-Kunitz? Crosby who almost became a Duck in between two other Ducks. That’s scary. Not likely to happen, but cool. I think the Ducks are a really good team. I give them a lot of credit.

It depends on whether Perry has a destination in mind or if he’s just looking for a big payday. Hard to see him not going to free agency given that every team with the cap space will want to sign him.

Selanne and Koivu should not be considered for deciding whether or not they should keep Perry. Both are on their decline while Perry had many more productive years remaining

That’s what people said about JayBo. Flames got his rights, locked him up. Not saying it would work with Perry, but the ability to pitch a guy exclusively is worth something.

Tough spot but you just gotta go for it now. Even if they are over-achieving, the point of dealing for picks & prospects is to hope to have a team like this year’s someday.

Well, you have a team like that. Enjoy it.

Unless of course they have some master plan of extending both Getzlaf and Perry by parting ways with Selanne, Hiller (with Fasth taking over) and some other pieces.

Right, but, like I said above, why would a team give up anything of value to negotiate with Perry knowing full well he’s going to test free agency?

I believe both guys will want AT LEAST 6.5 per, which gives them absolutely no room for any other players. I agree with bcisleman that he will most likely be traded, but not at the deadline. They are in position right now to make a strong playoff run, but with 14.5 mil in room and the cap coming down next season, it is just completely unrealistic to think Perry will be a Duck next season. The wisest option is to trade him at the deadline when his value will be at it’s highest, assuming he has a strong playoff performance. The Ducks also benefit from having his skill for their playoff run. It will be interesting to see where he ends up at the Draft.

The only reason this is even being considered is because Getzlaf is also in the final year of his contract and the belief is that the Ducks can’t keep both guys. They think Getzlaf is more likely to sign with them and also I believe Perry has indicated he wants to test free agency. If that’s the case then no team is going to make a deal for him at the draft. The Ducks’ place in the standings sure complicates things though.

Answer is they probably do not trade him at the deadline. Likely just as much demand at the draft at which time I do expect he will be traded.
