@19to77: I would have done Seguin, Landeskog and then traded down in the draft a few spots to look at one of the top D-men available. If they wanted to develop a D-man earlier (which has been their main issue) then looking at Larsson or trading down for Hamilton instead of RNH might have been a good move as well, then still drafting Yakupov this year.

You can’t fault them for what they did, and hindsight is 20/20, but those would have been my choices based on what I knew at the time, versus what I know now.

Actually, I’d have taken Seguin, RNH and Galchenyuk. Seguin > Hall because a centre’s more valuable than a winger when the talent projection is roughly equal, and Galchenyuk because a big, skilled guy who can pass, score, backcheck and take faceoffs is a sure bet for success and a small, one-way scoring winger may take a long time to develop. I’d also have taken Murray sooner, given the state of the Oilers’ D at the time.

Hindsight in mind I’d take Landeskog over RNH too, but that’s not what I was saying back then so it doesn’t count for much.

All in all, Tambellini picked a bunch of small one-way scorers when he should have been drafting with a more balanced approach.

You really can’t blame Steve Tambellini. He was handed 3 #1 selections and took 3 players that you, I, or anyone else would’ve taken with those picks. They simply aren’t producing goals. He may have been too conservative on hiring Ralph Kruger to coach and hasn’t been aggressive in acquiring a true #1 goalie, but the stats say that the oilers play poor defence and can’t score, so lets blame the kids who were all apparently the next big thing.

Also, if Scott Howson can last as long as he did in Columbus, Tambellini deserves about 10 more years in Edmonton.
