McLaren stated that Dziurynski initially said no when asked to fight, but then dropped the gloves right as the puck was dropped. Big mistake right there. For your first NHL tilt, don’t pick a 6’5 250lb veteran that has the ability to win against any other tough guy in the league . Dziurynski needs to take responsibility for that choice. And Niel’s excuse for a fight was pathetic, he clinched Orr the entire time to avoid being hit.

Good on Chris Neil for maning up against Orr. He did well tying him up and staying close to him. Most guys don’t do that against Orr and face a beating. Orr an Neil was a draw, but McLaren is turning into a good fighter for sure. What a knockout!!!

I think the problem is that guys who fight a lot have probably considered the effects it will have on their bodies while most players don’t seriously consider the ramifications of losing their eyesight. They assume something like last night will just never happen to them, so it’s worth protecting them from their own arrogance in this case. Plus all the best players wear them they must not be that bad.

Staal agreed to possibly take a puck in the eye when he signed his contract, and even further when he chose to not wear a visor.

First Period:

Hello out there, we’re on the air, it’s ‘Hockey Night’ tonight.
Tension grows, the wistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice.
The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane.
Someone roars, “Bobby Scores!”, at the good ol’ Hockey Game.

I’ve see Tom perform a few times, and had a beer with him in Halifax 20 years ago in a dingy tavern. He was a great guy. A buddy of mine knows all the words to all his tunes. Great sin-a-long songs when you’re having a few.

I get that, I just think that taking out fighting will detract from the game while mandating visors won’t really affect the game. It will make guys safer and they’ll get used to being able to see with them just fine.

I get what you are saying in that they are different, I just think if the boys want to go visorless let ‘em, if they want to fight let ‘em. They are both risky, but the players are aware of the risks.

Mclaren has like 130 pro fights. That was Dave D’s 1st pro fight. Maclean should be ashamed of himself if he told Dave to fight. Neil won the 2nd fight.

Can’t believe Neil manned up and fought Orr, but good on him. This is what this rivalry should look like. Two competitive teams that hate each other and have something to play for. I really, really hope this is a first-round playoff matchup. It’s been too long.
