Is it better to have gotten something for them instead of nothing at all? With Anaheim's self-imposed salary cap, I highly doubt it that they can sign both Perry and Getzlaf to deals. When you know someone will offer them ENTIRELY too much money in the offseason. Something along the lines of 9-10 Million Annually

WE'RE DOING JUST FINE, BUT THANKS ALL THE SAME ...

We Kings have absolutely no interest or need to get involved in any trade deadline shenanigans this year. Ours is a "beautiful, tough and deadly" team which has now found it's legs and is firing on all eight cylinders! And so apart from the "imminent" returns of comrades Greene and Mitchell, there isn't anything else that we require at this time ... thank you very much. :)

Lombardi (ie: currently the NHL's "undisputed" top GM) is right though by stating that there will likely be little activity this year at the trade deadline. This business of league "parity" has an inverse relationship with the propensity of teams to either "make" or "allow" for radical change ... especially during this shortened year, which is essentially like one big playoff season. The only significant move which I can see occurring is the repatriation of the Canuck's 64 million dollar "Michelin Man" back to the Sunshine State. Other than that, I too suspect like comrade Lombardi that it's going to be pretty quiet out there this year.

Attention all LA Kings fans: our next engagement friends is with the Stars tomorrow night at Staples ... it's not only important that we beat these people, but that we beat them with conviction ... and I believe that we will, God willing ... not sure about you guys, but I'd swear that just recently I've started to hear growing refrains of that beautiful Stanley Cup music from last year ? :)

Because apparently Perry and his agent haven't been receptive to contract talks, while Getzlaf has. So that means Perry will probably test free agency. But if Anaheim keeps winning it seems unlikely that they'll trade him (much like New Jersey with Parise last season). If I was running the Ducks I'd float his name out there and atleast see what kind of offers roll in.

They're in a tight spot. For one, they're on top of their division and second in the conference. So how can you justify to your fans that you traded away one of your star players when things are going so well? On the other hand, there's a chance they will only be able to resign either Getzlaf or Perry, but not both, so might as well get something for one of them (more than likely Perry) now. Tough situation, but I'm hoping they are able to resign both. We'll see how it plays out.

These star players on expiring contracts haven't gotten much in trade value though. I can think of only Hossa and Kovalchuk for players that were dealt on expiring deals and they didn't get much at all. Then again those were by the same GM so I guess it's not very revealing. I just feel like unless you are absolutely getting a fair return that won't hinder your ability to compete, you can't trade away one of those guys while having a great season.

I still think Anaheim will trade either Perry or Getzlaf. GM's I think are too smart after seeing what's happened in the past (Suter, Parise, etc.) to just let the players walk without getting anything for them. Yes, a team will give up quite a bit to get either one, but if you want to win now, having a playmaker like Getzlaf or a scorer/grinder like Perry in your lineup will make your odds of a Stanley Cup run a little more likely.
