Flyers’ Meszaros frustrated by slow shoulder rehab

Philadelphia defenseman Andrej Meszaros is fed up with being hurt.

The Flyers rearguard expressed frustration with his slow recovery from a shoulder injury while speaking with Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer on Wednesday.

“I was asked 1,000 questions, ‘When you going to come back? When are you going to come back?’” Meszaros said of his experience at the Flyers Wives Fight for Lives Carnival this past weekend. “I wish I knew. I wish I could go.

“As much as I really want to play, if you don’t feel right, you don’t want to overdo it and get hurt again. That would stop me maybe for the rest of the season, and I don’t want that.”

The 27-year-old defenseman has been out of the lineup since dislocating his shoulder on Jan. 24, a somewhat surprising length of time considering Philly originally pegged him to return last weekend.

The Flyers likely assumed Meszaros would heal quickly based on his history.

After tearing his Achilles tendon during a summer workout, Meszaros rehabbed diligently through the lockout and was able to play in Philly’s season opener against Pittsburgh on Jan. 19.

To come back from such an injury so quickly was impressive — original estimates had him returning in mid-February — but it also makes this latest setback all the more frustrating.

Meszaros’ recovery has been much slower this time around, and he’s now coming to grips with the fact that rest and patience are required before he can get back on the ice.

“At some point, [the pain] is just going to stop,” he explained, “and I’m going to go out there and play.”

keep crying, itll make you heal faster

Dude, ahole, do you ever say anything else? I’ve seen you on several pages and all you do is copy and paste the same tired “crying” insult. Atleast put a little thought into your posts. But that’s probably too much to ask from a mindless troll.

Har har harrr. You’re so witty.

At some point you just have to play through the pain Mez. The team desperately needs you back. And that was before Grossman went down. I like Mezsaros but after being plagued with injuries the past few years, the games he’s come back for, he’s looked timid. Like hes worried about getting hurt. And thats how you end up getting injured. I can’t claim to be anywhere close to as tough as hockey players but you have to be able to fight through pain. How many times have we seen Kimmo play through injuries, and it never affects his game. This year has been the most frustrating season since 06-07. First there’s an extended (unnecessary) lockout, then the Flyers have an absolutely jam packed schedule where they stumble out of the gate, then they finally start to climb out of their hole and we’re hit by more and more injuries. I mean Briere, Hartnell, Read, Couturier, Mezsaros, McGinn, and now Grossmann. When will the hockey gods give Philly a break? I’m still holding out hope that the Flyers can go on a run but they need Grossmann’s injury to be minor, Mez to suck it up and play, and Read back asap. If they can overcome the injury bug and stop the thoughtless and constant turnovers, then there’s no reason they can’t atleast get the 8th seed. Time for a run Flyers.

philthyfanatic77, i see your posts on here everyday and it amuses me how you think your the GM for the flyers. keep up the irrelevant comments bro

    • mclovinhockey - Mar 6, 2013 at 7:17 PM

you say fanatics comments are irrelevant… have you ever read your own? I do not know what team you like (I assume the Pens) but you are giving your fan base a bad name. If you were a fan of my team I would insult you on a daily basis.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Mar 6, 2013 at 8:38 PM

I have no such misconception about myself. I comment simply because I’m a hockey fan. I love the sport. And I love the Flyers. But in no way do I pretend to be a GM (other than in NHL 13), and neither is anyone else on this site. We’re all just sharing our opinions. And most people (even numerous Pens fans) on PHT deserve respect, but you sir, are not one of those people. You constantly disparage the Flyers, but I have never once seen you post a rational, intelligent thought. You’re the worst type of fan, as you frequently troll and dish out insults from behind a computer screen. I enjoy talking hockey, I think it’s the best sport on earth, so if you wanna actually discuss the game that’s fine. But if your only goal is instigate on Flyers pages then I will not waste any more time on YOUR irrelevant “thoughts”.

Ignore buttons were created with Aholes like 5hole in my mind.

  6. 5hole26 - Mar 6, 2013 at 7:40 PM

my team is hurt, hockey gods hate us, please help, someone give us a break. wahhhhhhh your team sucks regardless

    • phillyphanatic77 - Mar 6, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Seems you’re just proving my point about posting the same tired insults over and over. Am I wrong? Have the Flyers injuries just been an illusion created by my mind? Because I’m pretty sure they’re top-5 in man games missed this season, with only Ottawa and maybe Detroit ahead of them. Injuries are part of the game but they’ve been excessive for the Flyers this season. And I don’t think I’m out of line making that point. Like I said before ahole, atleast try to have your infantile mind come up with an original thought.

  7. 5hole26 - Mar 6, 2013 at 8:55 PM

ive only posted 3 times on this site so you must have me mixed up with someone else. And this obsession with the penguins is unhealthy. I never once said i was a pens fan yet you think they are the only people that hate your team. News flash bro, nobody besides phili has any interest in the flyers.

    • biasedhomer - Mar 6, 2013 at 10:03 PM

You seem to have a large interest in the Flyers.

You try to be clever, but your posts are so shallow, its really sad.

    • rtlemon21 - Mar 7, 2013 at 11:21 AM

      Who is Phili?

  8. 5hole26 - Mar 6, 2013 at 9:05 PM

your a real wordsmith fanatic, makes me wonder what your doing sitting behind your computer 24/7 playing flyers gm. send your resume into the organization bro

    • ml3939 - Mar 7, 2013 at 8:57 AM

So you are coming to website where the main content is words, not pictures and videos, and want to criticize someone for being intelligent, literate and thoughtful in their writings. How is he supposed to respond? Mindless, inane drivel? Do you criticize hot girls for wearing bikinis to the beach? You respond as if he wrote a poignant dissertation in response to two girls one cup (sorry if I insulted a family member).

      • phillyphanatic77 - Mar 7, 2013 at 11:57 AM

Haha. Appreciate the support ml. Ahole26 is nothing more than a troll attempting to bait Flyers fans into meaningless, low-brow arguments over nothing.

  9. hockeyfan28 - Mar 7, 2013 at 1:16 AM
