Those of you who spent Sunday watching hockey on NBC and NBC Sports Network were far from alone.

In fact, Chicago’s 2-1 shootout victory in Detroit resulted in a 1.6 overnight rating, the best-ever for a single regular-season game (excluding Winter Classics) on NBC.

And just for good measure, Montreal’s 4-3 win over Boston later that evening was the most-watched Sunday night regular-season game in NBCSN’s history.

Tonight on NBCSN: Flyers, Rangers aim to bury disappointments

It beat out the flyers pens game from last year? Not sure if that was NBC or whatever but I thought it was…. Anyway the real reason I came here was to say “and the NHL wants to get rid of this rivalry” easily one of the top rivalries, breaking this up would be dumb.

Blackhawks playing the Red Wings for the Stanley Cup…that possibility right there is reason enough to entertain moving Detroit to the East.

      • tbeilfuss - Mar 5, 2013 at 5:37 PM

exactly. I want to see Hawks/Redwings or Hawks/Canucks or Hawks/Boston………or Hawks/23 other teams in the Stanley Cup Finals!

But people are too stupid to see those possibilities.

I would love to see pens flyers finals but would you rather have a chance at seeing the team like once a year and in the finals if both teams can make it, or keep the rivalry strong and play each other 6-8 times a year.

Hell of a game. Best execution of two teams in the same game seen this year.

And the league wants to eliminate this rivalry with the realignment plan? Another one of the many reason the current realignment plan is a joke.

    • clefty1 - Mar 6, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Rushledger, you are NOT looking at the overall picture, one of the reasons the Wings want to move east is because of the west coast trips, the late starting games during the regular season and especially during the playoffs plus there is the travel through 3 time zones, it is not fair for Wings fans to have games starting that late, it is easy on teams in the east because they rarely leave their own time zone.

and they got to watch one heck of a game. especially the goal tending

As much as I dislike the Wings being a Hawks fan, I respect the team and the rivalry.

It’s a double edge sword. I love the matchups, but the opportunity of beating them to see the Hawks win the cup??

Regardless, they are always the games I mark on my calendar first. Glad to see people watched a truly respectful but extremely competitive rivalry.

Could this be the start for hockey night in America?
