It’s not like they don’t have the money, and they have too many D-men as it is. Trading him and eating some of his salary is better than buying him out and eating the whole thing.

It would make way more sense to buy him out because no team in their right mind is picking him up unless the Leafs eat a sizeable majority of his salary.
