Prust left during free agency for a deal the Rangers could not afford to give him. Rupp was traded for Powe, who has been a significant upgrade playing even minutes & penalty killing. Asham has been out with a back issue. Bickel was in the line up, but was on the bench when this happened. I don’t want the guy leaving the bench to go after a guy that was getting 5 & an early shower !

They are becoming “far too frequent” because they are being watched more. They are being called almost 100% of the time…players are noticing this and embellishing. That is not my opinion of what happened here, but I’ve seen it over and over – you can’t even pin a guy to the boards this year because they are stopping a foot and a half from the glass and once you make contact they are slamming themselves against the boards for the call. And they’ll keep getting it.

How does Bettman keep his job. While the successful leagues realize that scoring and safety drive ratings and revenue, he seems he’ll bent on going the exact opposite way. Dangerous hits, and restrictive play. So stupid

So the hit on Ennis was different because… Richards was leaning into the play? There is a flaw in the rule a hit from behind is a hit from behind. The reason Girardi didn’t get 5 and Kaleta did was reputation, and Richards flailing around like a B&$## . Kaleta being a dirty player is really overblown.. He’s a pest but rarely plays dirty with intent to hurt he just goes full speed and most of the time goes face first into the boards.

Jimw81, I did watch the Rinaldo/Crombeen fight the night it happened. I’m not sure what your point is since you implied that Rinaldo won’t face the music on the ice. Sure looks like he said “yes” when Crombeen asked him to go.

The thing most people who don’t play hockey will say is that “Oh, Richards goes down so easy… “, but thats not the case at all. Hes leaning in to play the puck, and in that postion it doesn’t take much to put you down. Then once hes down, theres nothing thats going to stop him from hitting head/neck first into the boards.

Theres just no way around it…. this was a nasty, dangerous hit. I don’t know if there will be a suspension, but there really should be since this type of hit is just as dangerous as a targeted head shot.

Kaleta and Rinaldo shouldn’t be compared. I have never personally seen Kaleta fight although I am sure he has, right?? I agree with you except for grouping Rinaldo in there as not answering the bell for his on edge play. How often does he turn down a fight?? A perfect example of him backing up his hits is the one he laid on Drew Doughty. Dustin Penner went right for him and they got it on and over with.

players don’t respect each other. fighting is way up from the past two seasons in which is good but the problem is the instigator rule. players like Kaleta and Rinadlo of world’s can pull this crap all the time because they got a rule that protects them and they will never face the music on the ice.

Kaleta is one of those players who has no regard for the safety of others. That is such a dangerous play right there. You hit your head at the wrong angle and you break your neck. Shanahan should throw the book at him. If Zolnierczyk gets 4 as a first offender I don’t know what Kaleta will get. But a blatantly dirty play like that deserves a substantial penalty.

Every player in the league needs to wake up. Someone will be permanently injured on hits like this. I’m not going to voice an opinion on fines or suspensions for the play, but hits like these are becoming far too frequent.

That was extremely dangerous. He could have been paralyzed but I’m sure that won’t factor into Shanny’s decision, just his actual injury diagnosis. Harry Z. gets 4 so what does this repeat offender get??
