Just an update on RDP. He got the win tonight against Adirondack. 22 saves, 3 GA, .880 Save Pct. Not great numbers but enough for a win.

Players are very competitive. Sure he got a lot of money. Most players in his position would bust their a$$ to repay the team and his team mates on the ice. When injuries come up and then continue, it can easily eat away at a players confidence. I’m not a fan if DiPietro or the Ilse but I sympathize with the situation from both angles. A good player who’s not able to play up to his ability while collecting all that money will have serious internal issues. All the crap thrown his way by writers and fans doesn’t help. I would find it hard to believe DiPietro is just sitting at home counting his millions and laughing while his team loses. DON’T THINK SO. He has probabliy exhausted himself trying to figure out how to get his career back.

Nor do I feel the team owners are wishing someting bad would happen to DiPietro to cancel his contract. They took a chance and lost. It could very easily be a situation like the Kings are struggling with Jonathan Quick who I thinik is the best goalie in the league. Here I have to admit, I am biased to the LA Kings for 40 some years since I was vacationing for 2 1/2 years in that wonderful picturesque location of Vietnam. Ah, what a wonderful time that was. I learned about and grew to love my LA Kings.

So, if Jonathan Quick continues to be a top 3 goaltender for the next 10 years of his contract would make Dean Lombardi and the Kings what, geniuses? Quick is great and has grown better each year. No doubt he could have gotten a lot more money elsewhere but it turns out he likes the Kings and his team mates. That team is locked up together for a long time and that is how they like it.

What maybe he needs is, for the Islanders to buy him out, & for him just to get away from hockey for a bit, just to clear his head . As for the ” suicide attempts “, grow up Rick, there are people going through far worse than you are in the Northeast, & don’t nearly have the resources, you do to help themselves, & their families ! Be greatfull, Rick ! Because, those people lost everything & they won’t get it back !

number one it was a brain fart of idea to give a 15yr contract to DIpietro or anyone else for that matter. don’t you think that within 15yrs theirs a pretty good chance of injuries which could end or side line his career. but none the less i hope things can turn around for him, he still has eight yrs on a 67 mill, contract, coach is this my seat

We all can’t blame him or the team for signing a long term contract when he seemed like a franchise goalie. He was awesome before the deal was signed. If he stayed at that level, would you be complaining about having a top three goalie for 15 years? And you can’t blame him for playing in an All Star game challenge he was selected for. He didn’t kill his career by crashing a porsche like Pelle Lindbergh (God rest his soul). He has bad genetics in his hips, a critical area for a goalie in the NHL. He’s a good man and has never acted like he deserves the money for his play since his first big injury. He hasn’t lived up to his contract but it’s not because he hasn’t tried to. It was just bad luck all around for all concerned. Mike Bossy had a 10 year career because of injuries and yet you never hear Isles fans get on his case because he was a part of the dynasty. Rick would have been a potential cornerstone of a dynasty if he didn’t get hurt. Lesson learned, don’t give anyone a 10 year contract, but don’t blame DiPietro.
