Video: PHT Extra — Ovechkin criticisms, Kesler’s injury woes

Feb 28, 2013, 7:45 PM EDT

In the latest edition of PHT Extra, Brough and I reconnected with NBC’s Kay Adams to discuss the hot topics du jour — namely, another round of criticisms fired at Alex Ovechkin and another big injury for Ryan Kesler.

Questions included: Does Ovechkin deserve all the heat he’s getting? Will Kesler’s injury kickstart trade talks for Vancouver? Do the Canucks have to be concerned about Kesler’s ability to stay healthy moving forward?

For all the answers to these, watch the video:

I’d say that the guy captaining this effort “probably” deserves a little heat, especially when you factor in the $10 million annual salary … don’t you think? In all seriousness, I do genuinely feel for the Capitals and their fans, as they’re so much better and deserving than this. In my opinion Ovechkin should be stripped of the “C” immediately and then a straight up “Ovi for Lou” trade should be sought by Caps management with the Canucks asap. Both players need the change of scenery and the respective fan bases would be positively “delirious” with joy! The only potential snag to that might be Luongo with his insistence on returning to Florida, etc. However the Aquilini’s could simply invite him to a “spaghetti” dinner one night and I’m sure he’d see the merits of going to Washington soon enough … :)

I thought we banned this guy? If not, I cast my vote. He’s just as bad as joey was…if he’s not the same person…

Is the media serious with this stuff? Seriously, Ovechkin has one bad game… and here come the “criticisms” again. Seriously it’s like this guy is the only target you go after on that team. There are other players it’s not all Ovechkin. Oh and when he was dominating the last few games, where was the articles then? Other than just the one about his hat trick. The media will seriously do anything for a story. Now I understand how DiPietro felt as he did, good thing Ovi doesn’t really care what the media says.

Yeah, because an Ovechkin/Luongo trade makes perfect sense. That’s going to fix ALL of the Caps problems.

Right now, Ovi, Ribeiro, Brouwer and Ward are the only ones on the team doing anything at all.

Funny how no one has said anything about Backstrom with his ONE goal this season and the great extension he signed last year… oh yeah, his last name isn’t Ovechkin. Please.
