I’m sorry you don’t think the defending champs should get a story after a win, but the lack of any reporting at all on the game also screws Wings fans. No story also means no video. The freaky goal Bernier gave up would have been fun to see again as well as Kopitar’s game winner.

While they’re at it, since they already have four of the Original Six in the same conference, they should move the other two as well and replace the Florida teams with Chicago (not too far from Detroit) and NY (very close to Boston).

Just realised the Red Wings would only actually have to travel west of the Central time zone 8 times in the regular season and a maximum of 4 times in the Playoffs. That sounds even better for them!

On the plan on my blog I have the Panthers and Lightning in with the Penguins, Flyers, Capitals, Hurricanes, Blue Jackets and Predators.

As for the Red Wings (who so much of this seems to be centred around) they’re still in the West but with creative scheduling they would actually play around 58 of their 82 games in the Eastern time zone and wouldn’t have to travel West of the Central time zone more than 14 times a season.

This argument shows up in every realignment article, and it’s such a lazy way to maintain stereotypes without taking time to know about the sport.

I highly doubt the Lightning are selling out Hurricanes games due to the high number of Raleigh expats living in Tampa.

There are plenty of Wings and Leafs fans in EVERY barn. It’s no different from Packers and Lakers and Yankees fans showing up in every stadium in their sports.

Yeah it’s always rich to hear Eastern teams complaining about travel.. even the longest flights would be comparable to say, Edmonton to Phoenix.

I agree with you, to an extent. This is a hockey site and there should be at least a recap of every game played the night before, even if it is the two last place teams playing. The area part I have a problem with is your post sounds like there should be coverage because it was the Kings. If I am reading this wrong, I apologize. I was going to post something about putting yourself in two extended 5 on 3′s and how it’s hard to win games that way, but where do I post that if there is no story.

Maybe the Florida teams should look at all the people that have moved or go there during the winter months that are from Detroit, Boston, Toronto or Montreal, I know there are plenty of Wings fans in both buildings when the Wings visit.

If the travel schedule would be too rough, maybe the NHL should look into moving the team to a market that will fill more than 6k seats a night.

Yes, Florida has it so rough for travel. And teams like Detroit who probably have logged millions of miles over the past 15 years in the playoffs and regular season making west coast trips constantly…

The Kings played the Wings last night, right? Did I just dream that the Kings came back from a 1-0 deficit to win? We got a story about the Ducks right after that game ended (8 hours ago now), but no story yet about the Kings’ win even though it took place about the same time?

Thought it was public knowledge that travel was part of the package when you become a professional athlete? I have a hard time feling sorry for guys making the cash they do who have to fly on chartered aircraft, stay in the nicest of hotels and have meals prepared while traveling. As for Florida Panthers players taking on more than their fair share of travel, find the positive that you’ll alaways return to nice weather and a half empty arena.

To be fair, 3 of the 4 conferences will have to travel as much as the jet have been for divisional games. So rather than cutting down on travel like the league wanted to do so the jets do not have to travel as much as they do. They just made sure most the league has to travel that much more.
