doesnt help that perreault is 5’9″ and 1890 lbs soaking wet…makes it look worse when a little guy goes flying like that…definitely not worthy of a major penalty if a penalty at all even

Coach doesn’t stand up for his player ? That’s gotta be a happy room. Even if it wasn’t a dirty hit (I didn’t think it was), coach’s job is to stand up for his player in that situation. Your constituency is the people in that room not the hockey world. You lose that constituency, you get fired.

yeah i agree, good to see a coach be objective. i didnt think it was as bad as hall on clutterbuck -ward on gustafsson hit was dirtier last night IMO.

eh idk, he didn’t really like BOMB the guy, it was just Perreault was at speed attacking for another goal. I think if anything, it was a necessary play by Z to try to keep Bryz with as much confidence as possible.

that’s just me tho…

and no doubt, wasn’t a dirty hit.

Instead of focusing on the knees, watch that hit and focus on the upper body action…its as clean a hit as you can get. Squared up on a skater who wasn’t in control of himself. Honestly, if you check a guy face-up, how in the name of physics are your knees not supposed to make contact? Their knees aren’t even the initial point of contact. Its a shoulder/forearm to the chest hit and the knee contact is secondary. This was a blown call that was purely reactionary. Shanny should see it that way but I doubt it, and he’ll be wrong too.

This is going to be a tough one.

I don’t think Zolnierczyk intended to lead with his knee and Perreault certainly opened himself up to such a hit by making moves in the neutral zone with his head down. With that said, the video evidence is pretty clear… its a knee on knee hit. Considering that Hall was very recently suspended two games for a similar hit, its hard not to think something more will come from this. Though considering how hit or miss suspensions/fines have been this year, its anyones guess.

Its also worth noting that Zolnierczyk’s game misconduct was all of 20 seconds long. If the league office decides that a game misconduct was the correct punishment (I personaly think that was the correct, and should be the only call on this hit), they might hand down a one game suspension since in reality Zolnierczyk wasn’t punished at all for the hit during the game.

Seems like Zolnierczyk picks up his right leg just as he’s making the hit… tough to call it a ‘clear cut’ knee on knee hit when there is little to no weight/leverage on the leg that contacts Perreault’s knee.

Oh and as for Pierre McGuire’s ever so insightful (dripping with sarcasm) take that it “was almost like Taylor Halls hit” just show’s how much of an idiot he is!! How that guy has a job I will never know!

I’m curious about Lavy’s response. He went crazy when the Penguins had the 4th line out late in the game and Briere got smoke on a legal body check last year in the last meeting between the Pens and the Flyers. Just wondering how he feels about this…..

Definitely wasn’t a necessary play by Harry Z. But I also don’t think it was an intentional knee. He was trying to lay a big hit on a guy coming across the middle with his head down, and he just caught him with his knee. Idk how the league will view this. Besides this play it was a great game by the Flyers.
