In retrospect, it looks like Brower’s comments made it easier on us last night. Whether or not it motivated Semin (who was owned by Holtbeast), it seemed like the Canes made it their mission to get Semin a goal, NOT win the game. There were so many pucks forced his way, and even Semin refused to pass when he had wide open guys (such as the 2 on 0 breakaway where he should’ve dropped it off instead of taking it all the way and getting stuffed). In essence, this made the Caps gameplan on D a bit easier- follow Semin around. The puck will find it’s way there everytime.

End result? 3-0 W for the Caps. Closed the gap to 4 points. Caps have won 5 of 7, with their only 2 loses against the Rangers in a 2-1 games which Holtby stopped 45+ shots, and a 3-2 loss to Jersey, who the Caps were leading for the majority of the game. Like it or not, it looks like Oates has these boys firing on all cylinders now, and with a hopeful return of Laich, Hillen, and MoJo at some point, things can only go up. If I were the Canes? I’d be worried.

Yeah, it is. They’re six points ahead with the same number of games played. So to tie Carolina, Washington doesn’t just have to win three games, Carolina has to NOT win any more to keep padding the lead in the interim. The Caps are rocking a .382 point percentage right now – losing at least 3-4 out of every six points and just under two-thirds of their games. If anything Carolina’s only going to open up more of a lead.

If you think Brooks Laich should be Captain, well I got nothing to say that is nice so I won’t say it.

If the Caps get a new Captain to replace OV it will be a player that is not currently on the Caps roster. That includes the all-star tire changer Brooks Laich.

6 points is way ahead? What if the Caps win tonight and that point difference goes down to 4? Canes still WAY ahead?

I know this strike shortened season is a 1/3 of the way over but there are still plenty of games left for the Caps to make up the 6 points they need to climb WAY out of the cellar and take the top spot from the Canes.

Every team has had lazy players on them, it’s just not professional to complain about them a year after they are gone. You know why people are bitter? Because you held on to him for so long and got nothing for him. Why not just trade him when he was scoring all those goals and you knew he had all these problems? Instead you guys let everyone know and made him untradeable. /Rant over

Semin had every chance to excel in Washington and he failed, wait until the playoffs roll around Canes fans and he takes stupid penalties late in periods or sleepwlks for two periods….get back at me…just wait…it will happen….

Troy just repeated what Cap fans already knew. Semin could be one of the best players in the league if he wanted to. He takes way too many stupid penalties at the worst times. Have fun with that Cane fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No kidding. Semin’s tied with his former captain for points this year, his ‘Canes are way ahead of Ovi and Brouwer’s sad-sack Capitals in the standings and unlike Ovechkin, he knows what the “Plus” side of plus/minus looks like. Semin’s been better for his team this year than Ovechkin’s been for his – and certainly many times better than Troy “quick, find me a bus to throw my teammates under” Brouwer.

Brouwer shouldn’t have made a comment. Not saying he is wrong, but he probably should have said no comment. His team is sucking and it has absolutely nothing to do with Semin. So if your still talking about a former teammate and still losing games, then maybe you should address the current locker room and not the former.

Maybe – and if that be the case and Semin’s psyche is somewhat fragile, or if he plays lazy if he isn’t motivated, then 1) Brouwer did a really stupid thing in motivating him, and 2) the Canes are doing their job to make him feel like a member of the family….giving him something to fight for.

Either way, true or not, I just can’t see it being a good idea for Brouwer to speak up on. I’m loving this back and forth between the teams though!

May be it was said behind closed doors. We will never know, but after watching 400+ games of Semin in a Caps sweater Brouwer spoke the truth. Semin is an unbelievable talent who plays when he wants.

It might be all sunshine and lollipops with Canes and their fans now, but we are talking about a 17 game stretch of a strike shortened season with Semin looking for that long term deal he couldn’t get last offseason. All signs point to Semin returning to his 400+ game form once he gets that deal. Glad the Caps won’t be the one footing that bill.

I like Eric Stall’s comments. Hes not saying that it’s not true, hes just pointing out that Brouwer seems to complain about other people alot. I liked Brouwer on the Hawks but he has turned in to a bit of a whiner now.

Again, it’s not that the comments arnt true. It’s just that either make the comments when Semin is on your team, or at the very least dont make them when your team is probabaly not even going to make the playoffs after not replacing his offence.

Semin also knows that Brower’s comments are not only his opinion, but that of the entire Capitals fanbase that actually watched him sleep walk through many games, draw critical penalties that cost is games, and refuse to back check on a consistent basis. Canes fans have had a month of Semin. Just wait for the other shoe to drop…
