I’ll just say, I live in Virginia Beach, so my resentment for Scrivens goes back to the Calder Cup finals last year. he’s like a little Sean Avery in net…. at least he was back then in that series. that’s ok, I hold grudges.

It’s an even trade the leafs and flyers both get the types of players they where looking for
but Philly man now lost season series to FLA and Toronto and this was supposed to be the easy part of the schedule

They are not going to dismantle this team or become sellers. They have played the most games and until tonight played more road games than any other team in hockey. That compounded with the inconsistency of youth and learning and employing a new defensive system on the fly (no preseason games) has definitely put them behind the 8 ball. They are slowly overcoming that dreadful 2-6 start and hopefully it will all click when it matters.

Holmgren is over valuing this team from the beginning. yes, with a young team, you expect a team to be inconstant but inconsistency with the veterans? any trade they are going to make that team is going to want Schenn or Couturier. If this team only wins one game on this homestand they officially become sellers. Keep this in mind, Flyers have played the most games then any other team in the NHL so far this shorten season.

No way in hell should they trade either Schenn or Couturier. When you build a team with youth you stick it out with the growing pains. You don’t break it up b/c your team has struggled for 20 games. It would be idiotic to make a short-sighted move just to make the playoffs this season. The Flyers are built for years at forward.

Flyers have now lost season series to Panthers and Leafs. Another missed opp for .500. Lot of games in hand for chasers. Schenn and Couturier are now open to trades. it’s only way they are going to make the playoffs. This team isn’t going to fix itself and only way it’s going to fix itself if Holmgren makes a trade that doesnt make the fan base happy.

Gerat performance JVR, 1 shot, 1 hit, 4 PIMs that almost cost leafs the game.

You could just feel that he was going to make a mistake and give up an empty netter. I like Gustafsson. He’s a quick skater with good offensive skills but he can be god awful in his own zone. I just don’t understand why he was out there with an empty net??? I get that he’s probably their fastest defender (besides Coburn) but what did he do to warrant that responsibility? Nothing, he made mistake after mistake tonight. To be fair the puck was bouncing ALL night but that’s inexcusable what he did on the last play. He has a wide-open shooting lane, plenty of screens, and somehow the puck goes right by him. Just one of those frustrating games where the Flyers were discombobulated for 2 1/2 periods. The Leafs played well, but how do they not call Phaneuf for blatantly playing the puck with a broken stick? It might not of made a difference but the refs cannot let that go. The Flyers were throwing everything at Scrivens and a PP there could have tied it up. But they wouldn’t have been in that position if they were at all competent in their own zone, especially on the Leafs third goal.

I have seen all of his games too. Last year should have been his breakout year but he was hampered by injuries. I am not sure what in my statement makes me a d bag unless that is the only way you know how to respond to criticism.

I like JVR a lot – but that trade made sense. All the offense in the world wasn’t going to help without more D. With the addition of Schenn and Couturier, plus the over-achievement of Read, etc., it wasn’t a bad move given that Carle wasn’t going to be re-signed. I hate Schenn but even though he’s got his weaknesses, if they keep him he will develop into a very solid D-man.

the players, they both are going to a market that will help them succeed and plays to there advantages. Long term i think JvR will do better but thats mainly because Schenn has more competition in philly.

Well Bob Clarke was way more willing to do that, compared to Homer. Holmgren has done a good job of going the other way… trading established vets for youth (ie Richards and Carter). JVR is one of the few examples of the current GM trading away a young scorer. But I mean they got a young defender in return.

They gave up a great player for schenn. Not sure who won that trade yet. Depends if your team needs more defense or more scoring. The flyers defiantly needed more defense. So they got what they needed.
