I think it’s far too early to even be discussing it.

    • odak51 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:20 PM

Agreed, you can’t base a trade off of 15-20 games.

  2. eigglesnosuperbowls - Feb 25, 2013 at 7:59 PM

JVR at best will be a 20 goal 25 assist guy for his career !

    • ml3939 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:18 PM

You gotta tone the homer thing down. You are the guy that keeps true Flyers fans away from WIP and the Fanatic making asinine statement after asinine statement. If he can stay healthy and in the right situation, JVR can be one of the top power forwards in the league, more like a 35-40 goal scorer. I get the impression if he were still a Flyer and he was being compared to James Neal you would be touting him as an emerging 45 goal a year scorer.

That being said, I am pretty sure trades cannot realistically be evaluated after 20 games unless one of the players was released.

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:52 PM

Your outta your mind ! We watched him here in Philly he can be a real dog when he wants to !

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:55 PM

Oh I keep people away from calling radio stations now ,,,,,,,dude your a dbag !

      • ml3939 - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:27 PM

I have seen all of his games too. Last year should have been his breakout year but he was hampered by injuries. I am not sure what in my statement makes me a d bag unless that is the only way you know how to respond to criticism.

      • bobhpine - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:31 PM

ml3939 has seen all of his games… ON TELEVISION

      • ml3939 - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:31 PM

And I guess I will be clearer in the future, you are one of the reasons hockey fans do not listen to sportstalk radio stations in the area.

      • ml3939 - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:33 PM

And the 100+ I have seen in person. Thanks for the recognition troll.

      • sportsfreak13 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:00 PM

Guys I can’t stress this enough eigglesnosuperbowl is a troll. He post crazy comments to get a reaction then just hurls insults at you. His go to remark is to call you a “d-bag” and he offers no intellect to any conversations. Please do not give him any attention and just ignore his comments. He tried goating pens fans on 3 articles and when that failed he trolled his own team. He is desperate for the attention so please don’t give it to him.

      • phillyphanatic77 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:09 PM

Dude, bobhpine, you seriously need to shut up with the attendance crap. NOBODY cares that you can afford box seats to Pens game. Just going to more games doesn’t make you any more of a fan. Especially when you separate yourself from the real fans and feel superior to everyone b/c of it. In reality you’re just another douche with money.

      • ml3939 - Feb 25, 2013 at 11:06 PM

From this point forward he should be known as bobhpiningforattention

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Feb 26, 2013 at 2:47 PM

I wish I knew you I would put up $500 every year (if you had it ) and take that action on him not reaching 35 goals a year ,you sound like a fool easy money ! 35-40 goals a year talk about asinine your the definition of it with that remark ,,smoke another one fool !

      • ml3939 - Feb 26, 2013 at 6:29 PM

Based on what I have read in your posts, if feel like already won by not knowing you.

  3. xflyersx - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:02 PM

Too early to tell, but neither team lost.

  4. 2giroux8 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:06 PM

alright, lets be honest, this shouldn’t even be a question. I’m a flyers fan, and honestly schenn is a good defensemen in my eyes, but he’s not good enough to get rid of JVR.

  5. phillyphanatic77 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:09 PM

The consensus is always gonna be in favor of the scorer, but anyone who watches the Flyers knows how important Schenn has been. We all know what JVR is capable and this year he’s fulfilling his potential. But with our forwards starting to break out JVR would probably be getting 3rd line minutes if he was still here. Toronto has provided him the 1st line mins he needs. Good for both sides, but most will say Toronto won this one.

  6. 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:18 PM

Who cares? We should be talking about how absolutely pathetic that roughing penalty on Simmonds was.

    • ml3939 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:21 PM

It was a stupid penalty to take. He.knows better and is lucky there was no resulting goal.

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:26 PM

Might have been interference, but roughing? Seriously? Come on now.

      • ml3939 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:50 PM

I agree interference was probably more appropriate but it was a penalty none the less.

    • icelovinbrotha215 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:25 PM

It was weak but he had no business doing it. No complaints though, for every dumb play Simmers makes, he follows up with 10 good hockey contributions.

  7. letsgopens8771 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:23 PM

Can’t really say. Flyers gave up one of the league’s leading scorers now, but they got a very physical defenseman. Physicality is always good, and so are goals, so I can’t name a winner or loser.

That said, JVR was a loss, but not a big loss for Philly because they don’t need help scoring goals…they still have Giroux, Briere, Voracek, B. Schenn, and Read, just to name a few.

    • 2giroux8 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:57 PM

briere is washed up, his days are numbered. schenn still needs at least another full season under his belt to be considered a goal scorer and red is hurt as of right now and when he comes back I don’t think he will be producing like he was in the beginning of this season.

    • elrock7 - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:59 PM

dont think you can count Braydon Schenn as a scorer! Not yet anyway

  8. friedberg7 - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:32 PM

JVR. Philly is known for trading offense too early in their career to fill a hole. Justin Williams and Patrick Sharp are two examples.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:01 PM

Well Bob Clarke was way more willing to do that, compared to Homer. Holmgren has done a good job of going the other way… trading established vets for youth (ie Richards and Carter). JVR is one of the few examples of the current GM trading away a young scorer. But I mean they got a young defender in return.

  9. sjsharks66 - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:00 PM

They gave up a great player for schenn. Not sure who won that trade yet. Depends if your team needs more defense or more scoring. The flyers defiantly needed more defense. So they got what they needed.

  10. leafsfaninla - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:03 PM

Thank god we r seeing other teams on nbC sports ch other than Flyers and RedWings

    • isithockeyseasonyet - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:45 PM

If more people wanted to see your team play outside of where you live, they’d be on national tv more

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:09 PM

The Leafs are on national TV non-stop up here.

  11. pensfan603 - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:05 PM

the players, they both are going to a market that will help them succeed and plays to there advantages. Long term i think JvR will do better but thats mainly because Schenn has more competition in philly.

    • elrock7 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:03 PM

Schenn might not have made the leafs this year. Leafs have tons of good young D-men.

    • elrock7 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:03 PM

Schenn might not have made the leafs this year. Leafs have tons of good young D-men.

  12. hockeywithdrawal - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:19 PM

I like JVR a lot – but that trade made sense. All the offense in the world wasn’t going to help without more D. With the addition of Schenn and Couturier, plus the over-achievement of Read, etc., it wasn’t a bad move given that Carle wasn’t going to be re-signed. I hate Schenn but even though he’s got his weaknesses, if they keep him he will develop into a very solid D-man.

  13. ibieiniid - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:51 PM

idk but Gustafsson’s gotta go. not just that empty netter. he blew like 5 plays tonight. cant catch a puck for s$*!.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:04 PM

You could just feel that he was going to make a mistake and give up an empty netter. I like Gustafsson. He’s a quick skater with good offensive skills but he can be god awful in his own zone. I just don’t understand why he was out there with an empty net??? I get that he’s probably their fastest defender (besides Coburn) but what did he do to warrant that responsibility? Nothing, he made mistake after mistake tonight. To be fair the puck was bouncing ALL night but that’s inexcusable what he did on the last play. He has a wide-open shooting lane, plenty of screens, and somehow the puck goes right by him. Just one of those frustrating games where the Flyers were discombobulated for 2 1/2 periods. The Leafs played well, but how do they not call Phaneuf for blatantly playing the puck with a broken stick? It might not of made a difference but the refs cannot let that go. The Flyers were throwing everything at Scrivens and a PP there could have tied it up. But they wouldn’t have been in that position if they were at all competent in their own zone, especially on the Leafs third goal.

      • ibieiniid - Feb 26, 2013 at 8:31 AM

        well said.

I’ll just say, I live in Virginia Beach, so my resentment for Scrivens goes back to the Calder Cup finals last year. he’s like a little Sean Avery in net…. at least he was back then in that series. that’s ok, I hold grudges.

  14. jimw81 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:06 PM

Flyers have now lost season series to Panthers and Leafs. Another missed opp for .500. Lot of games in hand for chasers. Schenn and Couturier are now open to trades. it’s only way they are going to make the playoffs. This team isn’t going to fix itself and only way it’s going to fix itself if Holmgren makes a trade that doesnt make the fan base happy.

Gerat performance JVR, 1 shot, 1 hit, 4 PIMs that almost cost leafs the game.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:13 PM

No way in hell should they trade either Schenn or Couturier. When you build a team with youth you stick it out with the growing pains. You don’t break it up b/c your team has struggled for 20 games. It would be idiotic to make a short-sighted move just to make the playoffs this season. The Flyers are built for years at forward.

      • jimw81 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:34 PM

Holmgren is over valuing this team from the beginning. yes, with a young team, you expect a team to be inconstant but inconsistency with the veterans? any trade they are going to make that team is going to want Schenn or Couturier. If this team only wins one game on this homestand they officially become sellers. Keep this in mind, Flyers have played the most games then any other team in the NHL so far this shorten season.

      • ml3939 - Feb 25, 2013 at 11:25 PM

They are not going to dismantle this team or become sellers. They have played the most games and until tonight played more road games than any other team in hockey. That compounded with the inconsistency of youth and learning and employing a new defensive system on the fly (no preseason games) has definitely put them behind the 8 ball. They are slowly overcoming that dreadful 2-6 start and hopefully it will all click when it matters.

  15. bigoldorcafromvan - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:37 PM

Both teams got what they needed. Good trade for both.

  16. jkay1818 - Feb 25, 2013 at 11:25 PM

Eigglesnosuperbowls, it’s cool you’re a huge flyer fan, but, get a job, hobby, shower….anything. It’s unreal, no matter the time, place, situation, you’ll always be Johnny on the spot and commenting. You make everyone uncomfortable. Get a grip, take a breath and shower, cool down and step alway from pht. Interview for a store clerk or something. You can’t even comment just once, it’s weird

  17. hockeyfan28 - Feb 25, 2013 at 11:40 PM

It’s an even trade the leafs and flyers both get the types of players they where looking for
but Philly man now lost season series to FLA and Toronto and this was supposed to be the easy part of the schedule
going to be a rough March

  18. kingsforever - Feb 27, 2013 at 9:07 AM

all in favor in having eigglesnosuperbowls banned forever?
