am not a pens fan but you hate to see talented players like malkin get hurt in the way that he did, seen replay, the way his head hit the boards was nasty . surprised he didn’t get further injuries.

Even if Bylsma was lying (which I believe I was), I don’t really blame him. It is standard procedure for a LOT of teams across sports to lie about the severity of an injury (in the NHL you get the famous “upper-body,” “lower-body,” etc.) in case the player comes back quickly…they don’t want the opposing team to exploit the injury. But when a guy goes on IR, it’s a different story altogether.

I’m a Patriots fan, and I think Bill Belichick is one of the biggest liars in sports.

I wish malkin a speedy recovery a rivalry isn’t a rivalry without the star players wether there injured or not the player they once were just look at OVECHKIN not as good as a rivalry with the caps because he’s not scoring at the same rate

Evgeni suffered a head injury. Dan Bylsma said he was not experiencing headaches or disorientation on Saturday. Rob Rossi from the Trib reported otherwise but Rob Rossi is an idiot so he does that sometimes. If you want good stuff from the Trib checkout Dejan Kovacevic.

On Sunday, Malkin was diagnosed with a concussion and reported short term memory loss. He will now go through the standard concussion recovery process. I presume that he is not experiencing headaches or disorientation still, but that the diagnosis stems from the issue with memory.

Thanks antmel30, you are right with ir comment! I may talk about giroux but I wouldn’t want him to miss the cross state battle. Good players and good teams create great rivals.

I think the Pens organization has been extremely forthright with all of the information they had, at every stage (although from reading your post which is just a conglomerate of information, maybe they shouldn’t have been).

Long story short, Malkin has an upper body injury and won’t return until further notice due to because they said so

As a die hard flyers fan I hope for a speedy recovery. I wish no ill will on players injuries. A rivalry is only good with all players involved. Get well so I can route against you.

You can have a concussion and not have any lingering effects. They’re sitting him while they go through the concussion recovery process and letting him get back slowly to regular hockey activity to assess if he still has symptoms along the way. If he does experience symptoms during the recovery, then he’d be at a higher risk for another concussion if he played and was hit.

I’m already sick to death of the mixed messages (and completely contradictory reports) coming from the Pens about Geno. Read the first paragraph, then the last paragraph, and tell me what the actual f*** they’re trying to say. Same damn article:

Malkin was officially diagnosed with a concussion on Sunday. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Malkin has been suffering from severe headaches and mild disorientation.

“He’s feeling pretty good right now, so as we go forward in the next few days, standard protocol will be followed,” Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said after the Penguins’ 5-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

“After the hit in the previous game, Evgeni suffered some short-term memory loss and therefore was diagnosed with a concussion. He’s had no other symptoms. He’s feeling fine and his memory is returning.”
