The Florida Panthers re-assigned goalie Jacob Markstrom to San Antonio, according to the Miami Herald.
Markstrom, 23, was called up to the parent club last week and appeared in a pair of losses — to Pittsburgh and Boston — but acquitted himself well, stopping 65 of 71 shots and earning third star in both games.
George Richards of the Herald reports Markstrom’s demotion could have to do with roster moves as both Kris Versteeg and Scottie Upshall appear ‘close’ to coming back from injury.
In New York, the Rangers have decided to return Christian Thomas to AHL Connecticut.
Thomas, 20, was called up this weekend and made his NHL debut against Montreal on Saturday, playing 12:46 while firing two shots on goal.
The son of longtime NHLer Steve Thomas, Christian was selected 40th overall at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and has been a solid scorer with the Whale this year, putting up 13G-11A-24PTS in 52 games.
