MAF looked like he did in the playoffs last season because he played too much last year (67 games career high), thats why pens went out and got a quality back-up for him and are planning on only giving him 60% of the starts. flyers dont have that luxury being 9th in the standings and not having a quality back-up to speak of. bryz has proven he can play 60-65 games a year effectively with phoenix and with this being a short season i dont blame flyers management at all for playing him – get your money’s worth while he is playing well….he is looking more inconsistent lately though as the season goes on, he will have a lights out game then follow it with a dud like last night so who knows

No Flyers fan sung Bryz’s praises after Pens series. Did you not see how many goals he allowed. They simply outscored the Pens. Bryz is too inconsistent to survive four rounds off playoff hockey

I just stopped laughing from that Phillyphanatic77 guy’s nonsense…the penguins are 13-6 because they have a day off between games…the flyers are 9-11-1 because they play hockey games too much…haha…dude.maybe your team sucks…maybe the flyers get their dander up for one team, and that one team, the penguins, is better against every other team than they are….I know that’s a hard concept…go lie down

So let’s go with your theory. Let’s say the Flyers buy Bryz out.

Then what?

I don’t mean that being a dick or any of that, I mean that as an honest question- what now? Bryz is out, and… what, Boucher? Leighton? Trade for someone else? Who? What do you give up to get that top-flight goalie?

Bottom line, Bryz isn’t going anywhere, because it would cost too much in picks/players to bring in his replacement.

eiggles, you just go on random tirades and rants, but still, you make little-no sense. If you want me to diss the Flyers, I will, but I didn’t. I dissed the coaching staff. The one person dissing the Flyers would be…you. And you are a Flyers fan. Next time there is a Penguins Article on PHT, think before you start trolling and going off on random rants, please.

Although you bring up an interesting point about the Flyers not being able to find a solid franchise goalie, you still think that Bryz hasn’t stepped up. I think he has. It is funny to me that last year during the regular season and after the playoffs series with the Penguins, Flyers fans were singing Bryzgalov’s praises, and after the Devils series, all I heard was, “TRADE HIM NOW HE SUCKS!!!” I would expect nothing else from a Flyers fan.

The Philadelphia Flyers have not had consistency with their STARTING goal tending for 25years going back to when Hextall was in his prime ! Frig the backup spot ! For a top notch organization not being able to find a career goaltender in 25 years is nuts ! The fact that we are even talking about a back up here is nuts ! Once again Iam probably in the minority here but here goes ! This bryz guy gets paid a lot of money from the flyers I really believe a back up goalie was not a priority this year ! This bryz guy is still auditioning for the flyers and they are gonna use him like a rented mule weather it be right or wrong ! If this guy is a world class goalie maybe in a shortened season the flyers figured a sprint to the cup may be the answer ! The tired thing don’t play that card and I don’t think he should go there, when marty at 40 is still banging out shutouts and going deep into the playoffs like he did last year ! If this guy bombs this year it won’t be because hes tired it will be because he stinks ! The flyers brass will amnesty this guy in a second at the end of the year trust me !

I agree that they need a solid backup (Clemmensen from FLA?)to avoid wearing Bryz out but he was not overworked last season. In fact, Bob got a good amount of starts. Bryz simply showed no consistency last season and it continued in the playoffs. But he’s been much better this season. If you look at Bryzgalovs career in Phoenix he had a ton of starts- close to 70 per in his final 3 seasons there. And the results were positive. Last year he started 59 and wasn’t able to get into a rhythm. So it could be argued that he’s the type of workhorse goaltender that needs to play a lot to keep his game up. Still, they need someone better than Leighton or Boucher (two borderline NHLers).

An excuse? Are you referring to the schedule? Because unfortunately we can’t all have schedules like the Pens. The Pens have consistently had a day or two off in between games, and both of their games this wknd were against teams playing the 2nd game of back to back (both at home for the Pens). The Flyers have already played as many back-to-backs as the Pens play ALL SEASON. And only 2 of those 10 games have been home, and they werent consecutive. Just look at this past week … the Flyers played Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday while the Pens only had to go Sunday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. And that’s been the general pattern for the entire season. Flyers have had to play 20 games in about 32 days, the most in the entire league. And 12 of those games have been away. Idk how the schedule was put together but it certainly doesn’t favor the Flyers in any way. If MAF played as much as Bryz he’d be look like he did in the playoffs last season.

Flyers need a solid, (not inconsistent) backup. I’m surprised that they haven’t traded for one already. Bryz is going to get hung out to dry come playoffs (if the Flyers even make the playoffs), and if he does, then that will not be his fault (because he has been very good this season) but the coaching staff for overworking him in the regular season, which is what happened last year with both Philly and the Pens…Notice I am a Pens fan but I’m not trolling, but rather being honest.

Hey Flyers fans: Is Boucher really that bad? I see he’s been in 3 games and his SV% isn’t very good, but is the idea to go with Bryzgalov all the time because the team can ill afford too many more losses almost halfway through the seasons? Bryzgalov might burn out…
